and the list tell you each location and each units raised. The nato symbol before each unit can be clicked to jump to the location. All true -- again, why can't we be made aware WHEN WE ORDER THE REINFORCEMENTS, where they will show up, at the TIME OF ORDERING? By the time they show up on the map, ...

Thanks all -- but could someone please answer as to why reinforcements do not list WHERE they will show up in a particular state, when you order them?

The general rule of the 10% is a good one but you might need more depending on the situation. A replacement chit is surely expended if an entire element is replaced, otherwise you might get refill in strenght without expending that chit, so this explains why the general rule is good. If you have a ...

Reinforcements/Replacements

Looking for some strategy regarding reinforcements in particular, and replacements as well. My strategy thus far (with CSA) has been to concentrate a leader (in the early game, which is as far as I have gotten thus far) in a particular spot, and then buy reinforcements for his stack to grow and then...

You see where I am coming from then. I know it is only really possible to attempt historical accuracy completely in the early game -- but it does have its own flavor none the less. For instance, 3 or 4 of your starting generals (given in late April 1861) would stay in Virginia.

Oh, and by the way -- played seriously for the first time last night using my above criteria for historical divisions, etc., playing as the CSA. I must be doing something right -- I am in June and no major battles, in fact I doubt I've yet to lose 1000 men!

Enter the history buff ;-) It was indeed part of Jubal Early's 1864 diversion, to take pressure off of Lee and preliminary to Early's 1864 Valley Campaign. He DID get to the outskirts of Washington, but both he and the rest of the general public knew that it would be impossible for him to do anythin...

Thanks both -- still, for the sake of curiosity, I am going to try and at least form my units (divisions, corps, armies) together historically and see how well they fight in-game as opposed to in-history...at least in the early game. That should be doable.

Ai

Please move to the appropriate forum as necessary.

I see there is an option to disable the AI in-game. Does that mean that 2 human players can play at the same PC, 1 as USA and 1 as CSA?

I do not see anything in the manual defining this.

Thanks in advance!

History Play

Just curious -- has anyone attempted to play a game as either side, as close to historically-accurate as possible, at least to start? I plan on trying to do that tonight -- primarilly I am referring to assigning leaders to their historical commands and groupings, and grabbing reinforcements as well ...

Next question (and an obvious Noob one) -- why do they start out certain armies (take Beauregard's for instance) "locked" for 3 or so turns? What is the point? Is it so you can add units to that army and build it up before moving it? And why does the "bombard Ft. Sumter" event take place, and yet if...

I own both AH's Gettysburg and VG's Civil War. I worship the latter and think that AACW has a lot of that game's elements included within.

I also own a couple more CW board games, though I can't think of their names off the top of my head.

Thanks Jabber! I have played thus far into late June 1861 -- why didn't it move in May, when it moved historically? One more question -- why doesn't Beauregard start off with the force in Charlston in April 1861? And where is Major Anderson? (I am guessing his lack of inclusion is due to the fact th...

AND...I was also one of those who had a huge problem with the deletion from the final film of the Battle of Antietam. I hear it is in an unreleased Director's Cut, but I can't sit through an even LONGER version of the film...so it would not be worth it.

I am HUGE Civil War buff and I can tell you that G&G stunk (in my opinion)! It wasn't that the factual material on hand wasn't sound -- it was the fact that the direction and overall portrayal was long-winded and badly executed. One should look up the Wikipedia article on that film to see the proble...

"Gettysburg" = best CW battlefield film of all time to date, although it does go on a bit excessively.

"Gods & Generals" = trash...GOD, the multiple issues I have with this film!

:) :) Hello all, Just bought this game and have been "toying" with it for almost a week now. I say "toying" because I have not yet played a full game and am still learning all the rules, etc. I have also been perusing the forums and find them to be overwhelming in a good way -- this game certainly d...
