I besieged Ft. Pickens for an entire year with a full division and a pair of siege batteries. Made numerous breaches, only to have them constantly repaired by the garrison. Finally assaulted the place, and took horrendous losses doing so. That's an attack with a full division vs. 1x garrison regime...

On another note, while taking a closer look at that section of the map, I noticed that the Kentucky River is spelled Kentucjy.

Yep! And Camp Nelson would be right next to it in the Fayette region.

IIRC, It was also the site of Camp Dick Robinson, not Louisville. Camp Dick Robinson was in Garrard County near Bryantsville (North of Lancaster), about 10 miles ENE of Danville. The only modern signs that it was there are a historical marker at the intersection od US 27 and KY 34 and Camp Dick Rob...

As for the other line, it looks to me to me far enough west of Purdy so as it should not enter the province. 'Cause I'm looking at the rail maps, and this is a line running slightly SE from Humboldt, not really getting near the river, then into Corinth where a "plus sign" crossroads is formed. It's...

14) Knox TN <-> Greene TN <-> Sevior TN. If you mean the one going to Newport then I agree with you. I'm not sure if the CSA are doomed, but it certainly seems like they are in trouble now - nothing to oppose Burnside, & in addition to beating Johnston, it sounds like Grant is ready to attack again. It sounds like the situation at Hardeeville was a repeat of the historical defeat at Fort Donelson ...

You might want to remove that whole section through Lebanon to Mt. Vernon in Kentucky as well. Had that railroad been there, the battle of Perryville (and the chase of the Confederates by the Union afterward) would have been very different. The route the railroad follows was a macadamized road as fa...

I know that Willliam Tho...

I've never read Foote and don't really intend to. There has been much more research done and new resources discovered in the 40 years since Foote's series.
