There is ample reason to think the Russia first approach will be successful more often than a France first approach. Its just so much damn fun to march through Belgium. :)

I enjoyed your AAR-plausible events..
Perhaps, some fine day, we can do a set together.

Uusing the G patch, playing SP (2 player) with army by army mode as Germany. The French ai used the event, "surprise" in an attack in August 1914. According to the definition, the surprise bonus only helps the defense while still in maneuver warfare. There is no benefit for the attacker unless trenc...

Franciscus The machine I was talking about is running Vista-completely updated. I was under the impression that the two were very similar except 7 does not use so many resources. I relized, after I posted, that I should have mentioned that I was using Vista, but I just wanted to see how long it woul...

Although I do not have any cursor problem, other than the momentary freeze while advancing to the next phase, this caught my interest. As there seem to be a few with this problem, I played around with it a bit. I actually never change the cursor sensitivity before-so it was in the middle position. I...

Yes Andrew-I just long to play the game with the reduced work load offered in 4 player mode. I want time to shift generals, cause trouble in the colonies, and smell the roses :D .

I' looking forward to you joining the game-I hope your cursor problem gets fixed soon.

No problem. Our next game will be next weekend. I am not really sure if it was the game or not-perhaps a router thing-but not mine :) As I had multiple connections with the F patch without problems I was at a loss to understand what had happened there. I would hope that the patches downloaded from h...

MUlti Player Diplo Stop

I am sure my game is running fine. I just finished another couple of hours of MP gaming without problem. Then while doing a test connection and initial play with another player the game would not advance out of the diplomatic phase of early August. We could still chat and move around the map, but it...

Multi-player Gaming

EUBanana and I were able to successfully hook up for some online playing today. This was my first use of the 108f patch. We did not use any VPN program-simply game to game over the internet. The game does work in MP, but there is a need to be familiar with the "strictly turn based" mode. There are s...

One other little thing that warrants its own post- The game must be restarted after any failed attempt to connect or even a normal close before attempting to reconnect. I made a few other changes to the router that helped in my situation. 1. Enable RIP. RIP allows for routers to communicate with one another. On my particular model (NetGear) the default is "off". 2. Ensure that UPaP is enable-this should be on by default, but worth checking. a. Advertisement Period-...

Sorry, but that is funny. Vista has been a pain for me too, but it never did that to me. I delete saved games from the data file at 10 or twenty a shot. You can do it from the game interface, but 1 at a time-bummer.

It would be interesting to know where Vista decided to put those files.

I had actually started 2 T.E. AAR's, but I did not take those into 1915. I will certainly do one-perhaps a MP game.

I think the CP makes for a more interesting opening-hard to replicate history.

One other comparison that I should have made between Gold and the original is the info box quantity and usefulness. In the old game the pop ups were much more frequent and somewhat repetitive. It was the most irritating aspect to the old game for me. In the Gold version this has been drastically ove...

That was a crafty way of knocking out Russia. If I understand the situation correctly; the results of the two Grand Offensives, the losses of manpower and provinces and the likely prevention of planned Russian Grand Offensives pushed Russia over the edge. Now the preparation can begin on settling th...

It seems like the AI was vulnerable to getting forces cut off. Would it help to add some AI logic to fight harder in tactical battles that would result in forces being cut off if the AI retreats? The end of the game saw lots of pockets of French forces that a human player probably would not allow. ...

There is likely an army or two that has not received required orders. I sounds like you are focused on the French front-but what about Russia? In some plans, Russia gets the early August move-required attacks into E. Prussia. The other likely culprit (not so likely on turn one, but maybe) is Serbia....

So, not quite home before the leaves fell, but close. I have run through this scenario multiple times in the old game. The opening of this campaign was about average for the "proper start". What really made this work all the way was the French capturing Metz. Normally, there would have been more Fre...
