There has been a lot written on the topic, but I'll make a few points. Mixed divisions are best for small CP limited stacks, or if you need flexability in detaching forces from a main stack. Cav is nessary in a stack for screening/pursuit After battles. I believe a 16 cp stack needs 4 cav to screen ...
Quick answer, get NM elsewhere. A little costal fort busting can get you some easy NM. That said, you are still better off loosing 10 NM than if you badly loose 1st bull run trying to take Manassas. As long as you build enough troops, the NM hit is not going to kill you. The trick when behind in NM ...
1. Look in the log messages. (Specifically the one on the far right that looks a bit like a key.) It will tell you the exact amount of money and WS is being gained. The number you are seeing is the amount of GS and ammo being transfered via ocean shipping during the supply phase. 2. The stratigic re...
I was thinking about going some unit modding, and as I looked in the files for artillery and Ironclads, I realized I didn't quite know the interplay of the penetration vs protection stats. From the old wiki, the combat section has a brief mention of protection: "PM = Protection Modifier: (1-lev...
Quick question... When modding the Unit models, the database excels have 2 excel files v9q and v9t. At first look they seem to be the same. Should one be used over the other?
Gray Fox wrote:The Army commander gives a bonus or a loss to the Corps commander. So he can indirectly boost or lower the stack commander if he is also one of his Corps commanders.
If the Army commander is in the fight, he will impact frontage and retreat rolls for all stacks as CiC
Although I worked through the topics that are about the division composition I still have questions about the usefulness of some elements. Zouaves Any benefit except filling infantry divisions as they come a single elements? Cavalry(in infantry formations) If these are good for screening to prevent...
Well polish is a bit relative. Everyone has their own private tweaks they would make to the engine. I would vote for a DLC of a few more campaigns...and perhaps something we aren't thinking of. It's a big beautiful map...how about a Red Cloud's war campaign way out west? Or a Mexican-American civil ...
Another option is to win battles with the General you want promoted. His seniority may eventually surpass the two less capable Generals. IIRC, you also get about 3 more available Army commands to assign each year. This! Go forth and conquer with the good ones so they can promote and gain seniority....
Welcome to the game! So supply can be transported overland, via rail, via river shopping, or by sea (from port to port on costal regions). Sea transport requires transport ships in the sea lanes box. By putting some transports there, you gained some capacity. Don't worry, you didn't loose any supply...
I wonder how hard it would be to create a "hidden leadership" setting. (Like hidden activation) . All leaders start as showing as 3-1-1, but they need to fight a battle as a division, stack, or army commander for their true stats to appear. That kind of setting with leader randomization wo...
I have never lost stats when promoting. However, you can pick up some unfourtnate traits. Off the top of my head, a 3 star Jackson gets a "quickly angers" trait, which is most unfourtnate.
On the whole, promoting leads to good things, but a few leaders have nasty suprises.
In my limited CSA experience, (PMEM) building 2 IW decisions solves your WS problem. In fact, it may be overkill. When things start to get tight for me, I tend to lack money, conscripts, and WS in that order. Plus it seems like the CSA does not benefit from the from the same dynamic of converting 50...
If I am able to get Forrest promoted to 2 stars, I like to use him as a great stack commander period. Even commanding infantry, he is fast and his offensive/defensive stats are top rate. He is the best hammer out West, so give him the resources to act as such. (I have had sucess with 3 infantry divi...
To be a bit more specific, you need at least 1 "regular" Line infantry unit (not vols) to get vps from a province where you have less than 50% loyalty.
Very nice post loki, thanks for the link Fox! Fox, Ape, Orso, pgr, et. al.: Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't we also determine that defending Army stacks are not targeted by attackers unless there is no remaining stack for them to target? So if for example, a single stack attacks an Army and a ...
To second Fox, the best investment for money problems, is transports in the shipping box. (WS is nice to build sometimes, as the $50 bonus for surplus can be handy, but it's more of a happy side effect.) Also, promote loyalty in your money making places, esp the gold mines out West. Also remember th...
As others have stated, attempt to go around. However, sometimes it isn't really possible (especially given the East is so supply rich... I'm looking at you Richmond), so if you are going to attack, you need to attack with a lot. Given that the game uses power ratings when rolling for retreat, try to...
So i had a look at the file in question, it is indeed strange. He is in Jan of 63, and there is no reason the corps shoulden't form. Perhaps the corps enabling event failed to fire?
Gosh fellas, all the formality... lower case please! Based on what you described above, I am at a bit of a loss for why you are having a hard time forming corps. Feel free to PM me if you want to have me take at your host file (hst). You could also try a screen shot of what is going on, so we can tr...
I wish I could have a look at your hst file. It sounds like you are doing every thing correctly. What activation setting are you playing with? You might be having a bad union activation day. (I believe inactive leaders cant form corps, though i could be remembering incorrectly)
Yep, you did your math's right. Keep in mind, if you are in unrestricted terrain the CiC will provide a frontage bonus in addition to the base. (Also, hit the 7 key again when things are muddy and look at what the difference ends up being.) (Oh, and if you have Cav, in clear weather, the frontage qu...
I find that 6lbs can still offer good service in the defense. So I would use them to give artillery support to garrison divisions. (Say a Union force dug in at HF in order to keep the valley bottled up).
Do any of you other oldtimers know how the weather works? I get what the impacts are, but does weather change every game day or is it per turn. (Say it starts clear for 6 days and then rains and turns muddy for the next 6 days etc.)
Let me clarify some things. Memphis is in the Shelby Tennessee Region. Holly Springs is in the Marshall Mississippi Region. These regions are most definitely connected. I have 1 Army within these 2 regions. I have 2 Corps in this Army. The Army is led by Albert Sydney Johnston. (He is solitary to h...
