Part of the problem might be the speed at which infantry is turned into elite infantry. If I look at the brigades that serve under Daun, I have one brigade where only 2 (of the 16) line infantry elements are still line infantry, the other 14 are elite. For the other 6 brigades the % of line infantry...

Turn 21, Late June 1757 Surprisingly Hamburg isn't assaulted yet. That means my men can see a siege artillery unit land on the shore of the Elbe. It will be moved on to Wismar, no doubt. Wismar is still holding, though when that siege gun arrives it will fall for sure. I have some Swedish infantry ...

Turn 20, Early June 1757 As expected I lost Kiel this turn. Hamburg is still under siege - I expect to lose it soon. Wismar is also under siege - but it is the only fortified town here, and the enemy seems to have brought no siege guns. So its walls are holding for now. My French infantry arrives a...

Two turns this time, to keep up with the game. Still only preparations for the fighting.. Turn 18, Early May 1757 More marching. The cavalry units look at each other, but don't engage. The troops I had targeted for an interception managed to slip away, and are spotted near Prague. We will try again ...

I might as well post the next turn also, no secret information in this one :) Turn 17, Late April My French force reaches Wesel, only to discover that the Prussians have left after all... It is a cheap win, but there is no depot in Wesel. Something I need to change, if I will use it as base. The cav...

As you can read in Squarians post, I am running a bit behind with the AAR. Both because it is a bit of work, and because I want to keep Squarian guessing :) . On the Austrian side it is really guessing where the main Prussian force is - and where it is going. Especially the last, as I try not to be ...

Turn 15, late March 1757 To my surprise the weather turned bad again. Fortunately most of the units were near a structure, so damage won't be too bad. Other units seem to have anticipated the bad weather, and decided not to move at all. Most of the troops in Pressburg didn't move - they are locked ...

Turn 14, Early March 1757 The snow melts, the armies are moving. From east to west: there are rumors the Russians assemble an army in Kurland (I only see 2 Cossack cavalry units for now, and they are locked for the coming turns). The Hungarian en Kroatian troops in Pressburg are partly ready to mov...

It is easy to quick, when all you have to do is buy a unit (or not), hit "next turn" and reply to the mail :) . Turn 12, Early February 1757 The snow stays for now. I buy two units of regular Hungarian infantry. Nothing of note happens. Turn 13, Late February 1757 A treaty in Calcutta (between the E...

No, I am referring to the filters in the buying window. You can select infantry/cavalry/artillery/support troops there, or "all" . The bateaux only show up when you use all.

Ouch - Squarians post shows that I am running a bit behind :) . Not that much happened.... Turn 6 Late November 1756 I await the coming of the Prussians - but they decline. Probably a wise decision, as there is snow on the ground. I retreat my troops to winter quarters. The cavalry at Chemnitz got r...

(Swedish) Bateaux

Sweden just declared war on Prussia. So I took a look on what I could build - with the idea of fortifieing Wismar a bit. Ok, so the Swedish can only build in Strallsund - fair enough, in reality they probably didn't "build" their units there, but transported them in. The strange thing I noticed thou...

The name of the Holy Roman Empire isn't derived from the Romans (as Latin speaking, Rome based conquerers), but on the Roman church.... It is based on the medevial idea of "one nation under God", which Charlemagne realised (more or less) for western Europe. The Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire cons...

Well, if you see them, you can't shoot at them. That would be ahistorical, as Phil said, they are needed later on :) . Phil: they do appear, in fact somewhere from turn 5 of the campaign, both infantry and cavalry. I'll stop buying them, but the database team can add them to the things to correct...

Insurrectio Infantry???

I am currently playing a game from the Austrian side. Buying some troops I came upon the Insurrectio Infantry (also available in Cavalry flavor). What are those troops? If you dig into the description you get regular (line) infantry as troops. They also have the stats (firepower, initiative, cohesio...

The title of "Holy Roman Empire" might be questionable, they took it still pretty serious at that time... Though their power had declined substantialy, the Emperors still regarded themselves as direct successors of Charlemagne, and Emperor of the eastern part of his empire. Their power declined a lo...

It would be nice to be able to save some troops - but they are locked... in fact they stayed locked the whole time, except for one brigade that was unlocked the second turn...to early to evacuate. :( Turn 2, Late September 1756 Ducchesse and Browne reach their destination. Messages in the AAR subforum

I just started a new AAR, and now in the place it should be. Only thing is, it does not show up in the ROP forum that there is a new post in the AAR sub-forum. I always go to the ROP forum, and look if there are any new posts in the subforums (sub-fora?) and then jump there. I guess this is how a lo...

Squarian vs Bertram, campaign AAR

Squarian and me played the full campaign of ROP till about halfway, with me as Prussian and Squarian as Austrian. I made an AAR of that war in the main section of the ROP forum. We ran into some trouble with the game, and decided to restart after patching to 1.03 beta7. We also decided to change sid...

A last post about this war.... Pocus and friends have released a new (1.03 beta 7) patch, in which the ability of cavalry to destroy infantry should be toned down a bit. The Russians should get more food, and NM gain and loss should be a bit less when elements got destroyed. I don't think the abilit...

The NM loss (or gain) and the victory or loss in battle isn't completely locked one-on-one. You loose NM due to the loss of units. You can win a battle - even when loosing more units - when forcing the enemy to retreat. Especially when the enemy has a larger army. I think winning or losing also give...

I downloaded the patch. Though the zipped file tells me it is patch beta 7 (and the date of compilation is 30 September) it still shows beta 6 in the right hand corner of the splash screen.

Do I now really have beta 7, and is the text wrong? Or do I still have beta 6?

I agree Pocus, things are actually working ok, except for the resulting depoplulated regiments. In my opinion there are several options: - giving the player the option to merge the elements of a unit into one element. Instead of one unit with 5 elements of 17 men, you would get a unit with one eleme...

I'll look if I still have the saved games Took some digging in my comp, but I had still the old game saved (Squarian and me restarted this turn, with my cavalry doing something else, as the result was to odd to keep). It might be a tremendous blow in reality, as those cadres would be used to build new regiments. In the game you cant get enough elite soldiers to build those regiments up to strenght, and the units will not accept anything less. So in the game the troops are useless, and were camping near Berlin for...

Cavalry units often will kill (entranched) infantry with no casualties to themselves. Especially Cuirassiers are good at this. This is already noted elsewhere (in my AAR of the war against Squarian and in "Problems with infantry against cavalry" in the general part of the ROP forum). We have had no ...
