This quickfix (which is also part of the 1.4.03 patch) affects AI and players equally.

So for now, until the next patch, don't start playing the 1850 campaign as USA (imperialism rating of 3) or Japan (rating of 1), if you intend to declare wars ...

You have to select the stack.

By default, in the panel at the bottom, the power of each unit is shown, but if you press the Ctrl key, the number of men on foot, on horseback and of guns is displayed instead.
