Re: How great was the southern qualitative advantage over the north?

As noted, the south may have initially had an advantage due to the larger percentage of West Point graduates in their ranks and the strength of the militia tradition across the south. Maybe not such an advantage at all; I believe Maj. Gen. George Pickett said, "The Yankees got all the smart on...

I think he's asking if you can have any effect on the Trent Affair, and the answer is no. It's a random part of the game. Here's a ponder though. I've only ever seen one outcome for the Chapman plot. Does anyone know if there is another one? Can I get a raider on the West coast if it goes the other ...

See what happens if you increase the detection bonus. It's worth a try. Lieutenant level gives me a very
challenging game, at least for the first 2 years.

What level are you playing on, and how is the aggression set? I play on Lieutenant with average aggression. No matter what, an AI is limited, and you should be able to figure out exploits against her fairly soon. Norfolk is one, where she never moves in as the CSA right away and I can usually send e...

I use cavalry, quick in and out runs. But I also use RGDs for Partisans and Copperheads/Unionists
if they can be placed where needed. Balloons help as well. :sherlock:

One thing I remember from discussions on Beta was that BOTH sides have to select prisoner exchange during the same turn for that to go into effect. As others have said I don't ever use it, especially when playing the Union as they have plenty of manpower at that point and starving the South is my aim.

For example, I do not want replacements wasted on heavy artillery in some remote location that will
never see action. The computer doesn't know this and will buy replacements that I don't need. If you
are just learning the game auto replacements is OK, but learn to live without it soon. :hat:

Look for the icon with the caduceus symbol http://i.imgur.com/ltjDfPv.jpg Be sure to leave the ALL button selected instead of a region. Often you can't purchase an HQ if a region is selected even though it's available for purchase. Same thing happens with supply units too, for some reason.

interesting series. Thanks for posting these!

That was a short video. Is your force in Richmond not a corps? If not why not? Also, it looks that
while you put a lot of forces on your West flank in Alabama your East flank is going all but un-
protected. Good series so far. Don't think it will go too many more turns though.

Your opponent is pretty smart. Did you notice he's using pure artillery divisions? Don't think the war
is going to last much longer for the South. One good push and he can take Richmond. Good series.

I'm not sure what else to do with the garrison militia except PP. Maybe defend retreat is better. At this point, since I can't move the capital, if he takes Richmond that is the end of the game. It's been a tough series and I've had a few unlucky breaks. I wish the game allowed the choice of a city...

Re: YouTube AAR - 1864 Scenario - charlesonmission (CSA) vs. principes romanes (Union)

It appears that a lot of your units, especially garrison militia, are in PP stance. In my experience that tends to lead to a slaughter without even putting up a fight. Still, you are holding on and you might do better than historically. You're doing very well in Texas and perhaps you could send some...

If you could detach a few more cavalry units to do some raiding it would put the Union on guard a little more but cutting rail lines like you are doing is good. Just remember that they also supply via the river as well. Speaking of, in Texas that New England Squadron the union has there is also carr...
