I'm guessing that the 'strike' referred to is the Eureka rebellion and speak to most Australians and they'll tell you that it is indeed still going on - as the Pommie cricketers will currently testify. Not that any of that helps at all.

Thank you too, Christoph. Every addition to the knowledge base is especially welcome if it can relieve me of sponging off the good will of others.

Thanks Kens. Ideally there are two treaties that I'd like to cancel, one between Austria and Saxony and the other between Austria and Russia. Both are Defensive Alliances. I suspect you're correct about the AI's reluctance to cancel - I've not been playing the game for more than a few months but I c...

Some people never learn

I've been caught again by the feature(!) that progressively shuffles treaty IDs down the list but maintains their original location for cancellation purposes. I want to cancel a treaty existing from game start but there are now so many 'un-cancellable' Casus-Belli treaties in the way that I can't us...

It's worth noting that the number involved here isn't fixed. As the years progress the quantum that you have to preserve to keep your businessmen calm gets higher and higher.

That's an interesting prospect, Kens. I mentioned that I fully intend to run your mod because of the intriguing prospects it conjures; but since I'm just coming up on 1860 now, the idea of getting a running start with it really appeals.

Many thanks for the insights and the rapid responses. I'm guessing that Jim has nailed it - Austria seems to have damned all colonial cards. Nine only - just enough to fill the panel and ending with Trade Post - so I'm going to have to hope there are more in the wind or take loki's advice and contin...

Colonial Claptrap Confounds Comprehension

I'm utterly flummoxed by the manual's instructions on how to manage Colonial Affairs. I'm playing Austria with SOI switched off which should, if I'm interpreting things correctly, allow me to play the colonial game unfettered. But apart from sending out various expeditions and merchants and building...

I'm playing with the full war-mongering options on and the combats then promote generals in both rank and seniority quite quickly. As of 1860, playing Austria, I have four three star generals of seniority 1 with another couple closing in. The devs point out that this isn't a fully tested and balance...

Thanks guys. It goes against the grain not to be able to manage (or at least know) who's in command, but if it can't actually be determined I'll take your advice and don the armour of indifference. Really grateful for the input.

Who's on top?

I'm grappling with the CiC function and have come up against a deadend. I understand that the the general with the greatest seniority is designated the CiC for a theatre, but if I have more than one general with a seniority of 1 how can I tell who gets the nod? The rulebook appears to be silent of t...

I think maybe there's confusion here between the way 'demand' is interpreted in economic theory and the way it's conceived in game terms. As I see it, the concept of 'demand' used by the game is intended to represent an abstract want, whereas in economics its viewed as a realisable action. Thus, in ...

Is it actually necessary to annex Prussia? That would have been an awfully big fish for Austria to swallow and I don't see anything in the historical literature that encourages a belief that that was Austria's intention. Could you not script a kind of Austrian hegemony, with some territorial occupat...

A short war's a good war.

Still playing 1.03 (Patch_PON_latest) Grand Campaign as Austria in 'warmonger' mode and I think I've stumbled across a serious fault in the war mechanic. If I declare war on, say, Russia on one turn then offer peace on the following turn, I can claim every bordering province, verify my offer, and ha...

You're bang on the money, Jim. There is a mis-phrased message that can give you pause on the way through, though. When you cancel a treaty the message box tells you that the treaty has "already" been cancelled. I'm guessing it's simply a translation issue but it did confuse a bear of little brain. T...

Thanks Jim. I think I understand the procedure. What I'd be doing is making room at the top of the list so that the Saxony treaty could slide back up to its normal place, then cancelling the cancellations so that everything else remains right with the world. I'll give it a shot. It might take me a l...

Them old Bavarian blues.

Just coming to grips with PoN and I've encountered what I take to be a bug. I'm playing 1.03 (Patch_PON_latest) Grand Campaign as Austria in 'warmonger' mode and I'm trying to cancel the start-up Defensive Treaty I have with Saxony. I say 'trying' because when I click to cancel it the effect is canc...

And maybe you should monitor the general discussion and "help WW1" area to see that the game is actually quite playable ;) Guess it all comes down to what you mean by playable. CTD in August 1914 combat

August 1914 turn playing the CP with Plan Rupprecht in the West. Italy has joined CP. A lot of battles occurring - at least a dozen (several more with interceptions, counterattacks, and breakthroughs) across all fronts. Just can't get through the combat phase. At some point (not the same one each ti...

Install creates copy

I've mentioned this in relation to a post by 06 Maestro on the Help Improve WW1 board, but after following his advice I'm no further advanced so I'm bringing the problem here. When I first installed the game I specified a different installation path to the default. The game seemed to install alright...
