Best strategy (aside from repairs, of course) is to buy or build on the cheap. Thankfully, that's much easier now days with hardware costs going down. My first PC was a DX2 66mhz Pentium with a whopping 64 megs of RAM and a 500 meg hard drive. Cost was $1,400. My current rig is a mid range quad core...

Are you absolutely sure it's not the temperature? Running a program like Speedfan or Core Temp can read off exact core and cpu temps. My last PC died as a result of a burned out heat sink and hard drive... running anything intensive would cause the dreaded blue screen of death. Are your crashea CTD ...

What are your financial policies? War bonds and taxes alone should be enough to scrape together some forces by the end of '61. Paper printing is a controversial method, some people stay away from it, others swear by it. From what I've seen, as long as you don't use it too often, the interest accumul...

CK2... that's easy. Have lots of kids, murder your siblings, and declare war on France. ;) As far as AGEOD games go, that's where they shine. Since they're WEGO turn based, it's easy to sit back and analyze things without feeling rushed or tempted to jump the gun. UI options are also limited but use...

That level of micro management is definitely one thing I could do without in my strategic operations games. Forge of Freedom is a great example of that. While a fun game, I really don't want to have spend an hour every turn deciding which small backwater town will get a new shoe factory, or exactly ...

I'm rather confused about this term 'neo-confederate'... what is that, like the civil war version of New Coke? Just kidding. But in sticking with words and terms, there are many contentious issues regarding the civil war that make it just as much a hot topic today as it did over 150 years ago. I thi...

Ace, I have a feeling you're going to be disappointed in the recruiting system for ACW 2. From everything the devs have said so far, it looks like they're going to use the more streamlined 'big block unit' scroll recruitment feature used in RUS, AJE, and BOR. The more detailed single unit system use...

I couldn't find anything at all about a Morhizd I. Thing is, Shapur I and his sons ruled as Sassanid kings during that time period, so the coin itself must be misnamed, or it might be an imitation coin with a rather non-historical king named after it to keep it from being compared to legitimate peri...

White/European guilt is certainly something that has been heaved upon western civilization... as a way to more properly 'civilize' those whose ancestors brought about civilization to Europe and the Americas. Fitting reward, eh? Ironically enough, it's a tactic being used by the very warmongers who s...

I don't think any one group of people have a monopoly on war and bloodshed. Every group, civilized and otherwise have been pretty good at killing at one point or another.

It seems to me that many other AGEOD games have a better way of determining victory, but that is probably due to games like ACW and WIA being generally 2 sided affairs, whereas AJE often has 3 or even 4 sides in a particular scenario. I just finished a Severan scenario as Clodious and had conquered ...

I just don't understand what all the fuss is all about with improperly including generals that shouldn't be in command. If you don't like General so-and-so and think it wouldn't be historical or whatever to use them, don't. There's nothing stopping a player from NOT using a General once he's activat...

I don't know, from most of the comments I've seen, most players here would like to see city specific recruitment. I've had at least one or two relatives involved with just about every war America has ever been in. My great-great-great-great grandfather served in the 28th Louisiana infantry and fought in the Red River campaign under General Taylor. He survived the war and was paroled in 1865.

That question really depends not only on which game, but the specifics of the command structure. If corps command is possible, say in ACW, I try to use not less ...

For modern history, WIA. For ancient history, AJE. I'd say AJE overall, since it has a limited type of troop construction that can get you used to the idea of building new units, plus the supply issues seem worked out really well in the newer games. Oh, and seeing Pompey and Caesar clashing into eac...

ACW 1 is as about as good as it can get with the final patch. Remember the early forms of the game that had script errors, laggy map, and tons of generals without portraits? I'd also have to agree about McClellan. In civil war terms, it's all about the career stats rather than the quick, single season abilities that show through.
