Re: Does this mean the AGE engine style of game is gone?

aye, i think thats fair, I still play AJE/WiA, RoP MP, the game engine remains a brilliant fit to the subject. But the final set, to me, really don't deliver and I think pushed the engine too far - but equally it maybe that the subject matter is of less interest to me. apols about the WiTE2 manual :...

Re: Does this mean the AGE engine style of game is gone?

I've played some of the SGS games. The Hawaii one is great to get used to the UI and basic approach, Montezuma is a very nice AGEOD-style study of the US-Mexican war and Heia Safari uses the game engine well for asymetric warfare (anyone who has played 'PoN goes to Africa' will recognise the resulti...

Re: 3 short reports

we can't get it to work, we can both play it SP, so its not clearly the .exe. I can pick up my opponent's turn MP and run it but he can't process my turn. we've been through multiple uninstall/install, made sure we are on the same patch etc. tried a range of scenarios just in case it was particular ...

3 short reports

Just finished a sequence of 3 MP AJE games, really had forgotten just how much fun it can be. My opponent (we did them all 1-1-AI) doesn't have an account here and is relatively new to the AGE system, so we chose sides with that in mind. 1) Sulla-Marius I took Marius, left the Pontics to the AI. Got...

Re: Colonial Limits & How to Change them

The options for Prussia radically expand about 1881 (if you have formed Germany) to something close to the norm for a European colonial power. Italy is limited, but you can use the decisions to slowly build an impressive colonial empire, I think Austria is very limited. As above, this reflects the u...

linked to the other answer, if they have less than 10 units then the last emperor decision will kick in sometime in 1858/9 amd remove them from the game.

Re: Indian Mutiny

Digging deep into my memory, this was one of the more problematic events that *should* have got sorted in the last patch - but its possible that something got missed. My recollection was the Govt of India decision (prob late 1858) should remove all the Indian factions giving you direct control (it m...

Re: Crimean War event troubles with France

just a bit more, when we reworked the events, we tried to eliminate too many of the very specific preconditions so as to avoid key events never occuring. So Italy south of the Po will unify around 1858-9, its less scripted to seek war (the events push it that way but the AI can hold back) with Austr...

Re: Crimean War event troubles with France

Hi very belated response. If you have the last patch then it has a lot of changes for Russia that sorted out most of the known problems for the early events (say up to 1860). That include the problem with the ctd related to the Caucasus revolt. after it was released i found one more, its in this thr...

Re: Losing despite winning

I'd step in and create an event.

You could take Florida say as a return of lands they took some time back.

I don't think you can play a GC with a relatively minor power and not intervene to some extent

my unoffiical test is 'would this upset the collective view of the major (European) powers'?

Re: Understanding why battles are won or lost

late to this, but a couple of things to think of. the 'stack selection' element in a battle can have substantial impact. If you have multiple corps you may find that sometimes one gets hit hard and breaks - taking the rest of your army with it. sort of linked to this, you can lose but not retreat fu...

Re: I Give up with trying to work out economics

one variable is trade, each turn the trade routes are recalculated, so you may import something one turn that another you source internally. If I understand it right, the calculaton is based on an internal trade if this is possible, so the projected money is as good as it can get and the actual may ...

Re: Peace deal : Problem with ownership of province !!

fairly normal, if you wait the AI will offer a good deal and be very glad you accepted it.

the cost is having to stick in a war longer than you might want, fine if all you have is unrest/revolts to worry about, harder if a major European power decides now is the time to attack you

Esp post 1880 I agree with you about the importance of coal, I often build mines in other countries, even if I lose them. at least the production is in the global system I don't think there is a #1 penalty, but purely off observation I formed the idea that some phases of the game, relations get wors...

Re: Why does anchorage not build?

not sure over #1, it can sometimes be a bit odd what you can play where but if you've taken the Prussian 1880s colonial event then yes you have a decent range of options. Off the top of my head, schools are a good one for getting CP>35 but it may have a MC criteria so dumping a brigade in the region...

Re: Playing as Japan 80% rebel loyalty

I think its ok, rebel loyalty as such is not a problem as long as you have no other unrest - its sort of an affiliation rather than active aim of revolt. So low loyalty and low militancy is fine (not ideal but its not a real problem), keeping militancy in check is probably the sensible choice to hav...

Re: Military Rating

Don't think that value is fogged up but it maybe. worth remembering that before Japan modernises your army is rubbish by western standards. So Prussia will have far more combat power per man than you do. Their army may even be smaller but if they are using the second or third tier of techs for infan...

Re: Is this a bug ?

There are several problems with the upgrade and force pools. My understanding is the 1850 tech (the one that fires for most factions at the game start) should not generate an expansion in available units. i also think this was dealt with in the last patch. Now I think, the 1870+ techs are meant to i...

its really good, it works dynamically, it gives a fair degree of interaction. Can sometimes be a bit odd but I'd tend to see that as reflecting the sort of misjudgements that rulers/states might make in reality.

Re: Is it possible to annex or take ownership of Siam?

I think Siam is one of those regions that you can't directly colonise, its akin to the modelling of Egypt and Persia in the game. If you are not facing rebellions, then there is an advantage to the status quo. The population in your conquered territories want to buy your goods, so if you can produce...

no its good, inflation increases the costs of structures, so if you have say 10% at 1000 money building now costs 1100. If I recall, negative inflation doesn't reduce the cost below the baseline but even so its a bit of slack you now have in the system.

If I recall, it may well settle out all wars with Russia, France and the UK including any extra ones that are going on. There is a mod for Pike and Shot that updated it for 19C battles. I realise on the AGEOD board this is near heresy, but the older Forge of Freedom (from Matrix) actually has a very nice tactical battle engine. The developers used it as the basis for the truely excellent Brother against Brother tacti...

glad it works :) the reform decision is one of the 4 that comes up with the citizenship option. Nope all those decadence but loyalty buildings are key to survival. I started very suspicious of them but worked out from a game up to around T350 that they were contributing something like 5% of my actual decadence. In part as I was offsetting with the eduction/court buildings but it surprised me. ...

Re: Once you go into decadent Old Empire....

for the AI it seems pretty random what the Antigonids do. its a tricky start as your capital is vulnerable, you have a load of wars so need money and its hard not to slip to old (& thus trigger the Diadochi mechanism of province loss). But if they survive, then its a very well placed faction. it...
