Re: Upgrade decision for heavy infantry prevents Judea from building them.Bug or WAD?

its intentional. basically with Judea you have two choices for your army. Your specialst units (zealots etc) or a conventional regional army. Best option is to take your specialists. if I recall, you can build normal HI in a different province if that has barracks etc (but I could be wrong about this)

Re: Best Turtle Faction for FOG : E ?

Carthage is good as you gain from avoiding wars, so you need some but they are localised and mostly very early in the game. Dacia is good if you are prepared to wait, but you are very isolated. Once you have built up its a potentially very powerful faction. Egypt is not bad, in the main the other ma...

Re: Armies striking deep into enemy territory

I find decent garrisons have an effect, say 5 mediums and 10 skirmishers, that tends to either slow these incursions or stop them (depends on how/if the battles resolve). Its also one reason to build up your fortifications On the other hand - they are often then out of supply and you can pull the sa...

Re: What's the latest, recommended patch??

the problem is the last patch can't be applied to games bought via Paradox. Apparently they completely messed up the keys (could add this is just one of the many things they did to undermine PoN) and Matrix/Slitherine decided they couldn't carry on with the situation. this has affected a lot of peop...

general point, you can check all these sorts of issues in the structures file in the game database. useful columns are: ao - if it is limited to certain terrain ap - if it can't be built in certain terrain az - if there is a road constraint (usually you need the second one for many world/national bu...

Re: Hannover to join Prussia? Or will they?

ok this is off memory ... in the period to 1866, you can align Hannover (so its 'ready') but if I recall it won't join. There is a decision linked to 1865-7 that allows you to form the North German Federation (you don't actually need a war with Austria to unlock this). there is a second mechanism to...

Re: Factories shutting down

one reason may be that the factory is still being built? If I recall it shows up on the production screen and you flip it to on - the end turn routine then flips it off. if you are not playing with 'extended claims' then you can't take European regions that are not of your ethnicity or an objective ...

Re: Buildings destroyed

I'm not sure to be honest. This wasn't the era of Vauban etc, so I presume that if a city improved its walls it basically built a better version of what was already there. so while complete destruction due to earthquake/volcano is a bit of a shock to the player, it seems to reflect the catastrophic ...

Re: Trading resourses distribution

to repeat - the salthouse attracts the salt to the region (IF it is available in your trade range). Once it is in the region it can be used as a bonus good by other buildings both in the region and adjacent. this is in the manual, its the key to how needed and bonus trade goods interact. if a buildi...

Re: Trading resourses distribution

best advise is to read the manual.

the salthouse creates the salt trade good, that good can then be traded. so you are not just reliant on the few places where salt is a natural good.

there are a lot of buildings that work this way.

Re: Trading resourses distribution

Trade goods are brought to a region either by in-region production (natural or buildings) or by trade. If a good is produced in the region, it can be traded out if another region needs it. 'needed' trade goods are taken from any producing region in your trade range. 'bonus' trade goods are only avai...

Re: Buildings destroyed

think the problem is that when you build further along a tree (walls/justice/schools/harbours etc) the game removes the earlier one, so all you have is the current level of building, so yes, if that is targetted then the effect is to strip out 2-3 iterations of building up

Re: Literacy Issues

can't really see your image so hard to comment, but a few guesses. a) literacy improvements are related to social class, so a given uplift will have more impact on your richer classes and less on peasants/slaves etc b) pop growth/class change is going on at the same time and can combine with (a) to ...

Re: when to form an empire?

here's some very rough ideas. a) if you are in with a chance of an early legacy victory (3* nearest rival), then convert, purely for the legacy gain; b) if you are playing Rome be careful due to the civil wars as a young/stable Empire, try to make your control over your regions as secure as possible...

Re: How do you deal with aging?

age tokens come from 2 main sources - being in the bottom CDR tier or losing objectives. There is a rare possibility that if you send a ridiculous diplomatic request you may lose one as a result (say ask for Rome to become a client state). Equally you may lose one if a region has -ve infra productio...

Re: Ideas on Trade Range, Acumen and Mercantilism

I think you are misreading a bit. The advantage of increasing your trade range is yes, you are more likely to be able to import goods. If its needed this drops the import price from 3* base value to base value, in addition its then available for use for bonus production. This is seriously good news ...

Re: Are there some historical leaders in the game?

no, in an early version there were a few historically named 3* leaders. The problem was they totally distorted the combat system as units they led all tended to get 8-10 on the combat rolls regardless of the troops they were leading.

You need a certain amount of accumulated food to get a new pop pt, lets say its 10 per pop (its not linear but that'll do). If you have a health building that gives you a 10% bonus, this demand drops to 9 and so on - so basically they improve the efficiency of your farming. Or in other words less of...

when reviewing a region, always check the indicators to the right of the name - can be good or bad but some are decisive ... like when you capture a non-objective non-shared ethnic region

other nasties are unrest/plague/recently raided
