1) Haiti owns one of your objectives so this will re-occur 2) not sure, it depends if its a non-national region .... to be honest I've forgotten all the complexities around this issue 3) war with the ottomans, run up a large warscore, demand the Lebanon in the treaty, this I am sure of as its a colo...

Re: Multiplayer

yes. By design, not all nations are equal, some give an easier start than others, some are better placed for the mid-game etc. There is a lot of in-game guidance to help people choose but yes there will be early knock outs - not least the AI is quite effective. So even if the players semi-cooperate ...

sounds right - even if not well documented (ahem)

costs go up for poor terrain, I guess to reflect the greater challenge of building a railline in hilly terrain rather than an open plain.

yes, there is no conventional PBEM with swapping files etc, it all done via the server.

I've found it a lot easier, especially if playing multiple test games at the same time.

no, the max is probably 12-15 players.

export to FoGE is only possible for SP games. Integrating via the Slitherine/Matrix servers is too complex for any style of MP export.

Re: Which Ageod game first to learn?

Depends a bit on the period that interests you ... realise that isn't the clearest answer. Unless it is your core interest, I'd avoid Revolution under Siege, Pride of Nations and To End all Wars as they probably are the most complex. WW1Gold is not really on the AGEOD system and is frustrating to le...

Just caught up on this. Excellent read Loki! Anymore coming? glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately not. Shortly after that last post I was doing a major computer file move and managed to delete some stuff - by the time I noticed this was long gone from both PCs (perils of being sloppy about back ups)....

Re: Field of Glory query

For the conversion you only need the base game. The conversion system is not Empires faction ---- FoG2 army list, its Empire's unit -- designated FoG2 unit and all that are needed are in the base game. Having said that, the dlc add a lot of interesting armies that are not in the base but buy as you ...

Re: How to update the Paradox version

Ok, this is a complete mess. Basically along with a lot else, Paradox f****d up the game keys so Matrix have no idea who has a genuine version and who doesn't. This has affected other games, notably the RuS upgrade to Gold where if you had bought off Paradox/GamersGate then they treated it as if you...

Re: Dev Diary #10 Units: Abilities and Modifiers

yes, you really notice the difference between a well balanced army and a poorly constructed one. In theory both can be equally powerful (as in terms of combat power) but the second might lose a battle or take heavier losses. Grabbing the most powerful (notionally) units without taking account of the...

Re: Would it be too difficult to directly implement FOG2 battle system into Empires? No exporting needed.

In part I guess because the designer of FoG2 is entitled to be paid for his work on that game? Remember you only need the base FoG2 to export any Empires battle. Also its automatic (both ways), tell Empires to export, FoG2 opens, close FoG2, resume turn processing in Empires, it really is as easy as...

Re: FoG:Empires vs Imperator:Rome

I gave up on Paradox some time back so I'm not the best to comment - in part I was totally fed up with their ahistorical approach, I was also disgusted at their treatment of AGEOD. But when CK2 came out, yes there were things missing etc, but unusually for a Paradox game you could play it and have f...

Re: Roman Legion on the battlefield

Best way to think about it is that in Empires the heavy infantry portion of the legion come as a package. So if you like the legion counter is around 4-5,000 heavy infantry (and what these are varies across the game). The Velites are a skirmisher unit so have a different role so are represented diff...

J.... I noticed that there were no apparent caveats or exceptions when the Dev Diary talked about FOG2 porting. In other words it sounds like MP FOG2 will be supported. Is that a fair assumption? the FoG2 comments at the end were to stress the option. At the moment no, you don't have the...

Re: General Abilities

The next dev diary will cover combat and that might help answer your questions. But basically good generals are a real force muliplier within the Empires combat system - and some have traits that work especially well/badly in the right circumstances (not all traits are 'good'). At the moment you can...

should add, modding the translation system is relatively easy, so even if the mod doesn't work initially it will be easy enough to come up with a translation system that does feed into that mod.

Re: I am excited about resolving crucial battles in Field of Glory 2

I think the honest answer is 'don't know'. If it adds new units or reformates the role of existing units then it may be a problem, if it simply changes how FoG2 plays then it should be ok. The translation process is basically take units in Empires, generate a FoG2 army using that input and a set con...

just the basegame so you don't need the dlc etc for any transition between the 2 games. Also doesn't matter if you have FoG2 on Steam or direct from Matrix.

Re: Battle system: FOG2 or AGEod?

same here, if you resolve in Empires you can watch it (very helpful when you are, opt just to view the result (who won, which units dead/damaged) or skip and proceed with the turn resolution (handy if its a totally one sided encounter).

Re: Battle system: FOG2 or AGEod?

yes, it is designed so you just need access to a working copy of FoG2, doesn't matter if its Steam or on your hard drive.

Basically the import works by selecting an 'Empires' battle on the loading screen (where you normally chose between a campaign/custom battle/historical battle etc)

Re: Duration of one turn ?

apols - my comment was in the context of AJE, where you would look for a constrained battle site using the smaller scale, so gaining this would take some care in move plotting etc. Yes, in Empires terrain also matters but its more aggregated. A province is say a forest, that affects frontage, trigge...

Re: New engine in XVII/XVIII/XIX century games

my understanding is the engine can be used to produce tactical games such as FoG2, somewhat ahistoric 4x (Empires) and scripted constrained games - say a rework of Rise of Prussia. So yes, its feasible that it can be used to replace the classic AGEOD games. Its a system that allows tactical, single ...
