Good news

I think a WW1 game will be outstanding. WW1 is after all considerably more interesting than WW2. There are loads of things that could be considered in a game from the tactical (how to break into and then beyond the enemy trenches, how to get off the beaches) to the operational (how to coordinate cor...

I agree and I also think it would be interesting to know what we all do for a living when not playing AACW, sitting in front of their keyboards dressed up as Abe Lincoln or Jeff Davis... it gets worse than that.... i'm writing a phd on military technology! That means I get 365 days off a year :tour...

A different sort of site, more of a reference really. http://grognard.com/ Very detailed. Hey thanks I've just checked it out... :cwboy: ...so many wargames and so little time! I can't believe the size of their index. What I hadn't properly understood until I had a poke around the site was that Adv...

sorry if a repost BUT....

I should have posted this one before. Maybe this thread is not the right place to do it in but has anyone checked out this website: http://www.the-underdogs.info/ There are some really really classic old school wargames from the 1990s and early 2000s most of which are abandonware or free. My fav has...

Good sites for Wargames

Hi, I was just reading the request Pocus made for some of us to go and post some messages on the Paradox and Matrix Forums and it prompted me to wonder what sites people visit generally. I am a regular at the Wargamer. Nothing seems to change much... perhaps 'cos its August or maybe there just isn't...

You know, I used to post in some wargame forums sponsored by another developer who I will not name, and I got bewitched and bothered for pointing out that studies have shown since the early days of board wargaming that over 70 percent of wargames are played solitaire. The criticism bewildered me. A...

what i love is....

I don't take the excellent support for granted - its truly fabulous. BUT for me without the great game there'd be no need for the support. So what makes your games really really really GOOD in my opinion is the beautiful art work, the depth of the games and the way you force me to make careful and c...

Vainglory of Nations

There's a thread that discusses Vainglory of Nations in the News forum. It has a good deal of info in it. Thanks Sol Invictus... checked it out and figured it was going to be a very interesting game. What I thought you were after though was some mini-games? The 2nd Boer War involved 250,000 British...

Cool

All these will be included in our Vainglory of Nations game... :cwboy: Hey that's really great. I was really hoping to don a redcoat and see if I survived some Zulu warriors. I tried searching for the title though and I couldn't find many references to it. I know Napoleon has to get sorted by the I...

What about some Colonial Wars?

Hey guys, Based on what you're polling I'd say Frederick the Great and the thirty years war. Both would make excellent games.... But is there any reason why you couldn't do a good old colonial war? What about the Boer War? The conflicts on the North West Frontier? Egypt 1882? The First and Second Su...

Coordinating Army and Corps Attacks

Okay, despite the fact that my laptop will not play AACW at anything like the speed needed to run the game smoothly I decided to buy it anyways.... I wait for ever for each turn to come around but I am sooo pleased I bought the game. :p leure: Now for a few proper questions: I am playing the CSA. I ...

ACW Game Review

Great work on the game guys I am very impressed... :coeurs: Has anyone done a review of the game yet? Have you managed to get any of the press to look at it? I saw one web site that gave the game only 66% based on user feedback http://games.gamepressure.com/game_info.asp?ID=9141 !!!! :fleb: !!!! Thi...

You can actually get Stonewall online

I first became interested in the American Civil War in about 1970 when I found and read Colonel Henderson's biography of Stonewall Jackson in the school library. I don't know if that book is still available. Interesting to hear that Henderson wrote another one. as an ebook at the following: http://...

another great book is...

called "The Civil War" by Colonel GFR Henderson edited by Jay Luvaas. Henderson was a Professor at the British Staff College before the Second Boer War. The reason why I would suggest this is a good read is that he walked the battlefields and wrote up a blow by blow account of various engagements. H...

About battle...

I like the BOA format but I wonder whether there's a chance to stop the game and get the results as the turn unfolds rather than simply watch the needle swing from victory to defeat and then sift through the results later? And another one which might be interesting for players would be some kind of ...

that the spec requirements might be relaxed? I really want to play the game already but I'm nowhere near a PC with 128MB video card for at least another year. That means I have to play it on my ever so transportable IBM x40. I can do that with BOA. From what you've just written I'm not sure I'll be ...

You learnt too that bright red uniforms are not well suited for modern war. The french will learn it the hard way in 1914. We learnt it after the first expedition to Egypt in 1882 when it was decided to establish whether it was more appropriate to wear a colour other than red. The Army of India (i....

very interesting. I take your point about the French Army and I suspect that is why the British feared it so much during the invasion scares of the 1880s! Just in case you were interested and you thought all armies take the same attitude towards cover here's a quote from a well respected author of m...

sure

I asked how changing technology would affect the way armies were supplied in the field. For example: more firepower weapons (breech-loading rifles, repeating carbines, machine guns) increase the logistic load as there is a tendency to use more ammunition (because you can and especially in conscript/...

the graphics...

are a nice touch. Once people get used to the symbols I'm sure they will know what to look out for when planning an attack/defence. You probably could make it more obvious but that seems to me a matter of taste. On a more substantive point. It take a lot of logistical support to put those field fort...

Good idea...

I'd very much like to see a graphical OOB. It would be good if you could search easily of cut the data in a number of ways so that you could quickly find the unit you were looking for. It would also be useful if you could then locate that unit on the map so you could relate the OOB to a unit's geogr...

and another thing I've just thought about...

if you've got to the level of modelling disease why not do dissertion as well.... It's going to be a problem to keep all those conscript armies motivated all of the time. I'm not sure its something that I'd have to see in the game but its another factor in war, right? What about units switching side...

Top stuff

I'm a complete lurker on these boards but this game is just looking so damn cool that I can't help myself. It is really great that a developer is putting so much effort into gameplay and graphics. I wish other wargames were as ambitious in their efforts. I bought BOA early on and thoroughly enjoyed ...
