Also, make sure you use the Run as an Administrator for both the install and beginning the game.
You may want to uninstall and reinstall.

Re: Can anyone explain why I lost the campaign?

If the Red player understands how to form divisions and armies under political officers, which is a mystery to most players for a long time, then the game is very balanced. Maybe it is even slightly favorable to the Red side as a solid Red player can take advantage of the optimum options/cards. Thes...

Re: Can anyone explain why I lost the campaign?

I do think this game has very clear goals and objectives. I do find it odd to compare it to Strategic Command, which is a lot of fun and which I play, as Strategic Command is kind of a historical simulation with a lot of fudging and fluff, while Russia under Siege gold is historical simulation where...

Re: Question about munition wagons

Have you been building munition plants? In my play, it seems proximity to munitions plants is the key to refilling munition units. The supply/munition push system pushes to the next wagon/munition unit which then files before the push extends to the next closest region (usually by rail).

Re: Any Strategy Guides Available?

Maybe the best advice I got was to remember this game is actually not about winning battles. It is about annexing new regions to your faction.
You are not pro or anti France, you are pro expanding your faction's regions.

Re: Any Strategy Guides Available?

Many people have posted small insights into how to play, but I think this game is still new enough that players are still exploring avenues of best play. This is a delightfully complex game where no simple advice covers all. For instance, Austria is going to get creamed by France no matter what. So ...

I wonder if the Union had done a close blockade and a distant blockade? Richmond can be blockades the river region outside Richmond and at the entrance to James, the sea region adjacent to the river.
You should be able to starve the city.

Meant to say engine -= is it different then won and adapted font the civil war. Felt won too vanilla and a “system” you can beat. Re: Can anyone explain why I lost the campaign?

Good sugestion but it would be more time consuming. You are right about the uniqueness of this game but I still think it could have been massively improved by the addition of some less complicated features. It is the complicated features which draws players to this game. It is not a bubble gum nor ...

Re: Can anyone explain why I lost the campaign?

I do have a suggestion for you if you prefer playing against the AI, play both White factions. There is no reason you can only play a single faction. To do this, select one faction, say Western Whites. Make their move and save. Exit the game Then come in as the Eastern Whites and make their move and...

Nice menu of items. I agree with many, but not all. I agree it would be very nice to have a separation of state and national units. I do think many of your other suggestions fall into the category of interpretation of historical realities and numbers, and so are debatable. This game does provide a m...

Actually, you can do this now. Make your move, when you come back use the shift key as you make your return move. It will allow you to return. This is also a useful technique if you wish to probe and return to base.

You have made a host of great new purchases. All excellent games.
The 1805 early start is a tough go, but yes, land quickly and head for London once you secure a port. Avoid the British navy if you can.

Oh my goodness, it is a total redo and a huge step up in game systems. The introduction of theatre commanders, alone, is a new and dynamic addition. This Gold is not just a polish, but a reimagining of the game and the underlying history. Additionally, some new scenarios for exploration. Some factio...

Re: Any tips for invading Britain?

The answer does depend a bit upon which scenario start you are using. The Jan 1805 start has a very different play than the Sealion July 1805 start, but in general, take a major port for supply, then take London.
The naval invasion is not too tough, but taking London is really a challenge.

Yes, scorched earth, but additionally units can gain subsistence from regions.
In games terms, Grant's move at Vicksburg and Sherman's are one turn and two turns respectively. As unit carry an intrinsic two turns of supply, they can make these historical moves just fine.

I am often in disagreement with Captain Orso, but on this matter we totally agree. #1 is fun and a very decent game. #2 is the Civil War, with the caveat that the South is so much stronger materially than historically, but CW2 is the very best simulation you will find for a computer game.

In some ways, this is not a simple question. Despite what players do, Kentucky may join the CSA. The Union can engage early and bring Kentucky into the CSA. The CSA player cannot influence Kentucky entry. That said, the CSA has a real plus if Kentucky joins the Confederacy early. If the Union forces...

I do not know about if it works if you are playing AI, but in pbem play it works. So I suggest this, play both sides. Many of us who are old board gamers do this just for fun. This would be a way for you to play the game and have fun with each side.

I do love all sides solitaire. So experiment even more with opening dispositions, and an active Western Entente posture.

Also, experiment with other powers joining the war, that is, diplomacy options.

I am a huge fan of EAW and have not yet exhausted the permutations as you seem to have done.
