Final Tournament Game - Pat Cleburne (USA) vs Seraphim (CSA) August 61 - August 62 E Aug 61 Rebels Take Tuscon and Laredo! From USA HQ: "I was half tempted to dive towards Fburg. Alas, I didn't set up good surveillance yet. It seems, like a good portion of his forces aren't on the front lines. I ne...

Game has slowed down due to issues with "Real Life" (TM) from one of the players. We're in July 62, with rebs holding Kentucky and Virginia, but the Union pressing in other spots. Hope to have a legitimate update with maps, battles, etc. after the SuperBowl weekend.

First Report on Championship Game

Dear grognards all, As you know by now we have at last reached the final game of this nearly year-long tournament. For the Union we have Pat Cleburne, who comes to the game via the "one loss" bracket. His only loss was in a game to the winner of the "zero losses" bracket, Seraphim who will be playin...

In my recent game, I had a British general upset because he didn't receive command of the Army of Tennessee. I don't think that's what the developers intended, the Brits should only be upset if someone bypasses them for an Army command within their own nation :) . That's a first! Just when you thin...

It's not a question I can answer directly - we'd have to have MoniKerr do that. It seems to me that Gen. MK was counting on corps to MTSG and that Grant's Army HQ role was limited to supply army-level artillery, rather than entering combat directly.

Battle of Memphis Decides the Game!

MoniKerr (USA) and Pat Cleburne (CSA) ended their semi-final game this week, following the largest battle of their game, at Memphis. Grant and several corps attack Longstreet plus Johnson's corps in Memphis. The rebs have had supply problems, but are well entrenched. The Yanks have 100,000 men in th...

We now are ready for the E May 63 turn in the last semi-final game between Monikerr (USA) and Pat Cleburne (CSA). Pat has a 198 VP lead, but that lead is slipping nearly every turn as the Yanks capture city after city. However, the game ends in 6 turns... is it enough time to make up the gap against...

Map Update - Spring 1863

For you visually oriented students, I am enclosing two maps for the current semi-final game between MoniKerr and PatCleburne, which is at the start of the E April 1893 turn. One for the East, and then one for the West. Enjoy! East, E Apr 1863 http://imageshack.us/a/img402/8397/situationineaststartof...

OK, this update will take us through the end of 1862, from where we left off, in May of '62. During this phase of the war, you will see the Union attempt advances in Virginia and Tennessee, succeeding in one place, but failing in the other. The CSA admits to overbuilding and perhaps overcommitting o...

I guess I've been lucky forming up a force as fast as I can in Charleston MO so that I can attack Cairo and (in most games) take it and turn it into a CSA fort. So far it doesn't seem to have irritated the Kentuckians enough to make them side with the US. Perhaps it's because the AI tends to build ...

We Kentuckians do not "share" the Ohio River. It is ours, to the 1793 low water mark of the north shore, as stipulated by the Supreme Court in 1980. Our reward is that we get to pay for nearly all the maintenance on every bridge over the damn thing, and are not able to tax any of the floating "river...

Update MoniKerr vs Pat Cleburne

Whew! These boys fight! THREE big battles at F'burg in two turns, with one side winning all three fights and gaining 12 NM in the process ... nearly 50,000 casualties in all .... and yet the other side is making gains over most the rest of the map. This game is still in doubt, with about a year of g...

I just realized I've never posted on this thread! Can't say I have a REAL preference. Update on Moni Kerr v Pat Cleburne We just finished the E May 62 turn. The game has turned a bit more conventional since the last update (E Jan 62). That's not to say it's boring! Instead, the weather and arrival of new troops, along with positional exigencies, have caused play to be, ummm, more con...

Why are We Missing Department Commanders?

I just finished Grant's memoirs. In it he often refers to the Department (Theatre) commanders (usually with not much nice to say!). In his own case, he was the General-of-the-Armies in the east in 1864-65. Meade was actually the commander of the Army of the Potomac, meaning we can't duplicate histor...

Update on Moni Kerr v Pat Cleburne as of Jan 15 1862

This is a most unusual game. There have been several moves that show the aggressiveness of each player, coupled with their understanding of the limits of the game, and how to bust through them without being "gamey." We just finished the E Jan 62 turn. But I'm going to back you up to the August turns...

Corps may "march to the sound of the guns" to join a battle in another region, but divisions don't do that. In many WW2 games it's to your advantage to keep the frontlines covered with units. However, it's rare that works in AACW ... maybe Corps, but that's it usually. Better is to fight for supply ...
