Forced March

I recently have seen the "Forced March" button appear on some of my stacks. Can someone define what this does? Thanks!

Transports/Amphib Assaults

So, I'm considering attacking St. Louis in an amphib invasion and wanted some Transport 101 knowledge. First, my understanding is that to "load" an Army onto transports, you simply merge the transports with the current stack. Is that right? I'm also hazy on the weight issue - do transports carry jus...

William Harwar Parker

A shame the Confederacy doesn't have more Admiral characters. A *great* addition would be the character of William Harwar Parker. Although only a Captain, he was one of the more interesting Confederate Naval officers

I wonder if the simulator allows one to raise CSA regiments from captured Union states. Historically, had either Maryland or Delaware been overrun by the Confederacy, in all likelihood there would have been some effort to form regiments from those two slave states -especially Maryland which was neve...

Thanks for all the great info. Once thing I am still confused about are Ocean Transport Points. I've read in a few places its impossible for the CSA to ever have any. Is this true? I loaded a Union game once, just to see what it looked like, and found the Shipping box full of transports - apparently...

That would be an interesting twist if the Confederate Navy ever became so large that it could start blockading northern ports. But, yes, I believe I've read in a few places the Confederate Player isn't able to do that in the game.

Confederacy Blockade/Shipping Box

So, I've gotten the idea down fairly well about the Shipping and Blockade Boxes, i.e. how they work and what happens if you send ships into them. But, I was wondering two things: 1) Is it possible for the Confederacy to blockade the Union? What happens if you send heavy warships (as the Confederacy)...

Captain Owen Dutton Hughes was the Regimental Commander under General Hood. His two brothers were also at one point in the regiment - only one of them made it home alive at the end of the war. Owen was killed in Tennessee in 1864.

I've noticed that there are two types of militia - the ones with the state tabs next to the regiment symbol and the ones without, who appear like regular infantry with an "M" in the middle of the X, but with no state tab. Apparently, according to what I've read, the "state tab" militia suffer penali...

Conquering Union States

I was wondering if there is any advantage as the CSA in focusing on all out conquest of a Union state. I have a formulated battle plan for taking over all cities in Maryland and Delaware and was curious what would be the final result. Would I get to actually raise regiments from those states? Of wou...

Unlocking General Lee?

This has probably been answered before, but does General Lee simply unlock automatically? Or does the CSA player need to set a chain of events in order. Historically, as we all all probably know, General Johnston was wounded, paving the way for Lee to take over. In the last game I ran, I actually le...

Kentucky Free For All?

I've started playing the scenario in the mod "w/Kentucky" and was curious how one goes about actually invading it. Right now, all the regions are greyed out as neutral. Historically, General Polk took his troops in, setting off the hornet's nest for the CSA. Does this happen automatically in the gam...

1st Mississippi Regiment

This unit appears early in the game as a self contained, single element unit. For all those interested, my ancestor was the Regimental Commander of the 1st Mississippi Infantry during campaigns in Tennessee! Pretty neat to see it in the game!!

Armies and Units in the Winter

Trying to get a clear understanding of what to do with units in the wintertime. When it starts to snow and the ground freezes, should one move all their armies and other field units inside cities? This seems to go against the trend "cities are traps" but yet a lot of the manual speaks about attritio...

Building Forts

Just spend some time reading all the previous threads about cities and I'm still hazy on building forts. Big question - are the forts basically built INSIDE a city? Thus making it a "super city"? Or do you merely have to have a city in the region and the fort is built outside. I think I might run an...

Subordinate Generals - do abilities still count?

Had a question about "2nd in command" generals. Do their special abilities still count if they are under a force commander? For instance, if a Division Leader is in charge and you stick a lesser general in the same stack with artillery bonus, does the division get the bonus? What about simple unorga...

Two More Questions for Veteran Players!

Stacks versus Tabs

I've gotten the stacks concept down pretty well but had a question about tabs. For instance, lets say you have a stacks of infantry under a general, then another stack of infantry and artillery under another general but these two stacks are under different tabs. If attacked, do they fight as one? Al...

That would match real history! A great game so far. Although 1861 was spent beating back a MAJOR invasion of Virginia by the Union, far larger than the historic Union push through Mannasas.

New to the Forums - Corps question

I posted a question about forming Corps under "AACW Strategy discussions" before seeing this large thread at the bottom of the main page (I'm new to the forums). Sorry to repeat the question, but if anyone can go over to the original thread and give their advice, it would be much appreciated.

Corps not Forming?

Its January 1862 and I have a lot of Confederate Divisions, a few 3 stars and 2 two stars officer. My divisions are forming fine, but the corps button doesnt work anywhere. I also have two armies established - Army of the Potamic and Tennessee - with a third one standing up in Mississippi. Why arent...
