From AGEWIKI which looks like its from the first AACW, but assuming it is still true... Blocking Riverine and Naval Supply For riverine supply distribution, which uses the riverine pool, distribution is blocked in water regions which have either an enemy naval unit, or are under the guns of a fort (...

Late Oct 1863: First the good news... http://i.imgur.com/XxGvVyD.jpg I took DC! The bad news... I'm losing everywhere else. And taking DC was very bloody and costly. There were 5 long bloody battles over a couple months. I won the first one and last one. They won the 3 middle ones and I lost ~15 NM....

Ok, I have played 3-4 more turns. Butler's supply dropped to 80-90% one turn and then the next it went to maybe 60%. But the last couple of turns it is back to full 100%. Either 1) I'm missing something, 2) they somehow slipped some ships through with supply maybe or 3) and I'm thinking maybe the lo...

Forrest should be a three star by now. He's underachieving for me. Still just a 1* mainly because I'm not exactly sure how best to use a Cavalry guy. I tend to give em some cavalry, have them scout out troops, maybe destroy some rails, if i get lucky I can take a small garrison but usually after a ...

So the coastal artillery in the Alexandria redoubt only helps with brown water blockading? Because aside from those guns, the harbor in dc is not brown water blockaded. I have one ship with 2 elements there and that's it. It's not blockaded. But an above post seems to say having that ship there bloc...

Very Harsh Weather blocks all movement, even rail. Ah! That explains it more than likely. I tried to recreate your blockade of D. C. and I found that the defenders were getting only 117 GS per turn. That would feed less than 4 Divisions. The rest starve. Out of curiousity, where is that 117 GS comi...

Sounds like you will soon have enough to make a try at DC again when those six divisions arrive. Are you using rail movement for them? Snow won't be a problem if you do. Quite. Sounds like you are getting the hang of things :) Well, *trying* to use rail movement. They got there eventually. There is...

Current situation: Late April 1863 http://i.imgur.com/dHJmJ7t.jpg I have Jackson, Longstreet and Johnson as Corps in Montgomery. (Why can't you pick which army the Corps will go to? Somehow Jackson and Johnson are part of PGTB's army but I'm moving Lee to fix that (hopefully). Johnson's Corps as you...

fwiw, I'm in late January 1863 and have too many guys. I have Lee, Longstreet, Jackson, PGTB, ASJohnston and Joe Johnston at 3*. Then Edmund Smith, Magruder, Gustavus Smith, Polk, Edward Johnson and Forney at 2*. And I still have 3* Longstreet as a division commander.

Ok, up to Jan '63 and I'm trying to restructure and move lots of troops in the dead of winter. Joy. I have abandoned Baltimore and Lee has just taken Annapolis. Captured a fort and a coastal (? iirc) battery. Should they be set to bombard? Do they do that automatically? Should they be put in the cit...

Current situation: Early November 1862. http://i.imgur.com/X9ILBQ4.jpg I assume it is too late to go back and check the reports or is there a way? I thought about stopping and restarting but never thought about going back to do it again (of course I'm not sure how :) but I'm not sure I would anyways...

Thank you Armchair, that actually helps. I have played it to early Oct '62 now. And I made a costly decision. I was able to push McDowell back, eventually capturing Baltimore. It was September, I had Lee's AoNV in Montgomery, Jackson's Corp in Baltimore and Beauregard in Alexandria (Johnston is in M...

Thanks for the post. Just playing 'ol Athena. So, I understand river crossing is tough, but why would a ~4500 stack against an entrenched ~2000 stack lose? I guess I just want to better understand the mechanics of defense since as the Union in the past, I'm pretty much just attacking. And in the pas...

Confederate Tactics

First post in awhile. I am playing the Confederates for the very first time (in AACW or CW2) and enjoying it. I feel like I kinda know a number of things but I have never felt all that great at tactics. First any general tactic tips for the Confederates would be very appreciated. But I am in a situa...

I had the same issues with the game I just finished. I won the game as the North in Dec 1864 but CSA were holding Chicago and Milwaukee at the end of the game. During the game, they took St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Allegheny, pretty much every city on...

Wow

I dl'd the demo, played around with it a bit and have read through the forums here and at Paradox. And I'm considering if I want to get this or not. The big thing holding me back is the time element. 70 years, 24 turns per year... 1680 turns in the game. Just to process a turn, it seems to take abou...

Increasing Conscript Points

I know every 6 months (or a year for mobilization) you can add a ton of conscript points. And I know there are certain generals when placed in cities (Banks, etc) will increase conscript points per turn. But is there any other way to increase conscript points per turn? How are conscript points calcu...

Thank you both for some good information! Yeah, I did ask a bunch of questions, but I bet I could ask as many more without a problem. That's the beauty (or curse depending on your pov) of the game. I have used search some, and I will try to find info on stuff in the future through that venue. But it...

Newb Q's

Hi all, I just got the game recently and of course have all the newb questions that everyone else seem to have too. I have tried to read as much as I can from the wiki to the manual to posts here to some AAR's. I've played through one game on the "easy" level. Won as the Union in Nov 1864. Doing one...
