Having some sort of in-game ability to view who my commanders are, where they are and what their abilities might be (even though most of the South's general attributes don't actually function) would be helpful. Moving generals around who might have abilities I could exploit would be helpful. Otherwi...

Why bother with gunboats at all? All I see them do is sink gloriously when instead I could have timber/cottonclads for nearly the same cost and time with, what, nearly triple the combat power?

So, you would recommend more that a light "corps" on a flank or rear areas to pursue/mop up? I have never been able to work out how best to press an advantage like that. Generally I get somewhere only to find another division appeared there fortuitously and then I lose, but not enough to retreat.

Would then, late game, the ideal be a "cavalry corps" in the Army Command for a MTSG benefit? In that they're wicked fast to get into the field?

So why are we not allowed divisions early on in the war?

If just two commanders used a divisional format, that's not the wide-spread adoption of the division, and can't be used for evidence. Hooker, iirc, did away with corps and instead organized his forces into wings or something of that nature.

New question for this thread. How does one go about attacking a city which has a fort and a force outside of the fort? For instance, if someone has a fort in a city and has maintained a force outside which is dug in, is there a good way to bite pieces off (aside from the routine "go into assault pos...

If Athena is turtling in DC, and you've taken Baltimore, I would say that you need to add another division and drive on all of those big cities. If I had 20k men in my opponent's backfield and no indications that he's about to bring more forces to the fight, I would punish him and take any city that...

Neither side began forming divisions until later in the war; at outbreak, the US did not have any "divisions," and the CSA certainly did not (as it was trying to declare independence). I would avoid using "game numbers" to use for a mod, especially if you're trying to use HoI4. Better to simply use ...

If I turned in code that looked like this which was not self-documenting, I'd fail worse than I already do in Computer Science. My question is why there are two different variables (a short and a long) when it should simply check once or check a step-through: "Am I wounded?" -> "Will I be healed by end of turn?" -> "Are friendly forces controlling town? (if previous check returned false) -> Stay or Go.

Then I'd like for the Raid, Cavalry Screen, and Spy RGDs to regenerate... there is no rationale for only however many (mostly useless) RGDs that *do* regenerate and yet things like the submarine or naval mines (along with the aforementioned ones) do not.

There are troops in the region. I've a strong Corps formation sitting defensively in the area hoping that if Jerzul tried to move at all, it would force a battle on my terms.

Okay, there's something wrong now, officially. I don't know what it is, but it's now screwed Jerzul over, hard, twice. I, as the CSA, attacked into Fairfax, fought a hard battle and won. McDowell was retreating across the Potomac with his army, but in the middle of the river, I guess he changed his ...

I liked this idea from the Paradox forums, perhaps with a summation as the second post (so that you're not hunting through the entire thread to find your answer). My first question is brought to you by the "Division that had whole elements wiped out." Do I need to separate them into their individual...

I was just about to post our saves while talking with Jerzul, but we realized that since we modded our generals a bit, that you wouldn't be able to open the game. We know that it's not those units though (none of the move problems included our generals themselves), but since it isn't a base game the...

The reason that I believe that this is happening in our game is that because of the harsh nature of the winter in the territory that we're in, and that I have now 96% MC is that his stack can't actually leave because by the time it tries to leave, it's still "in" the region when a new check of MC st...

I have to say, this was a key thing I could have used before going into my PbeM game against Jerzul. In AACW, you could use riverine supply units to build the fort and was trying to do the same in NOLA for our first game in ACW2. The continued failure to build a fort was a contributing factor into m...

I agree completely. I'll also make one more plea for giving the CSA player the option to build ironclads, and instead use that war supply, etc to do something else such as building coastal artillery, improving railroads or building wooden gunboats in larger numbers. I've always regarded the South's...

I think the game already is prohibitive of several of the situations that both sides found themselves in during the course of the war, most especially the Seven Days' Battles, the early Shenandoah campaigns, et al.
