In my experience with other games too many players get bored far too easily or drop out as soon as their tactics go a little bit wrong, thus wrecking the game. Whereas right now people desynch and are forced to quit within 3 turns max, having much the same effect. A great shame as the game is almos...

It's not merely reactions, it can desynch very easily with the other player, and if they desynch when one thinks he's pressed end turn and the other guy is still waiting for an end turn, thats game over, unless someone drops. It's not just that, but in my experience thats the big one. I can get out ...

Multiplayer

Hi I've been kinda lurking on here to see if there any more patches in the pipeline to make the multiplayer game more robust. It's been a looooooong time since the last patch, and we did try that multiplayer but it wasn't really any better. But I lurk anyway as it's a good game and I'm kinda itching...

I think Maestro is talking about how his Schlieffen was soundly checked at Liege by France. ;)

EUBanana will have some further comments. ...Yeah. In one of the test games I was the CPs, and did the diplomatic poker / concessions to Italy thing so Italy joins the CPs. This means Italian troops are expecting orders in the first turn of action. It seems that the Italians were available to attac...

Hey there EU Banana! Yo! 6. In the game configuration, make sure you have the same default PW and player name that you are using in the current game. Pretty sure that all your suggestions have already been done except this one. Sometimes I change then name. is that iffy? I'm in Pacific Time (GMT-8 ...

Boo, and it froze on an end turn again. :bonk:

And it froze again while trying to connect.

Seems to work somewhat better without routers, but I fear it's still too flaky to actually be playable. :(

Which is sad, as both of us think the game would be great multiplayer!

Heh, a good start too, Diplomatic Poker, Concessions to Italy and Italy joins the CPs.

And I'm the CPs.

Diplomatic poker seems a bit good. :D

Never mind, tried again with the big game and it worked.

Woo!

I guess the routers might be an aggravating factor, but it still seems to flake out a fair bit. :( But it's working for now at least...

Hmm well, we got desynched again over an end turn when the other guy got hit by a lag spike. Must have lagged just as I was ending my turn, and that was that, game stuffed. I guess that could do with being more robust. We tried to connect again for a grand campaign, didn't work, same issue. Then we ...

But I should find a long cable... grrr! :(

It definitely works with a router - but apparently only 1 time in 10?

We'll play a bit without routers, and if it connects every time, I guess that must be it.

OK, we just tried it without a router on either side (we tried without a router at my end yesterday) and it seemed to work first time. Not sure how stable it'll prove, and it did work first time with the router, so I'm not sure if it's going to come back, but thats progress. :) I fired up Wireshark ...

-router settings. This depends on your ISP really. eg. Maestro06 only had to do portforwarding on his router (IIRC) to be able to host the GC, but for I only was able to host smaller scenarios after I set a "virtual server" on my router, which in effect is that the router relays any package coming ...

This is exactly what happens to me. The host receives my credentials, but my client fails to establish a connection because not able to send packets. But it is sending packets in other apps, and presumably that name 'Bo Derek' went over in a packet. I've even done a bit of file sharing with that gu...

FWIW the guy I was playing with could open a socket successfully to my computer using that IP address. So I really don't think it's a network issue. His computer can definitely see mine, and can open a TCP/IP connection to it. Besides. Have a look at the attached jpg. You can see the other player co...

Given that they said they did succeed to connect at least one time, I don't think the network configuration can be looked at as the issue. If the network configuration made it impossible, they would never connect. This is what gets me too. We did manage to get a couple of games going. As a bit of a...

The problems you're having when connecting the two PCs the first time are not caused by the game itself. DirectX is returning some error code, so the game is not able to establish a connection. So try to investigate on your connection provider. Just to give you one tip: it's important you are able ...

As an aside, quite often if the host clicks exit game, it freezes upon returning to the multiplayer screen. Bummer! The game seems to work OK-ish (just one game breaker in four small multiplayer games) but connecting is really hard work, as it crashes the vast majority of the time. And it's not the ...

More issues... Quite often (like, 75% of the time) when you attempt to join to a hosted game, it freezes. The hosting player sees the other player enter the game, but their game will also freeze upon clicking 'exit'. The joining player doesn't get as far as the lobby, it freezes as soon as you click...
