Re: Poll. New engine first game.

The Habsburg-Ottoman wars. Pretty much a horror in terms of research, but a really great and very colorfull topic that has not been embraced by wargamers so far.

Re: Ideas, suggestions & questions

Suggestion: Replace the faction name "Kingdom of Austria" with "Habsburg Monarchy" (which is the term modern historians use to describe it) or maybe "House of Austria" (to refer to the dynasty rather than the name of a territory). For those interested: A kingdom of Aust...

Re: Not enough scenarios - biggest problem of Ageod games

It might be true that people who like 30-day-intevalls (and all their implications) and long-term campaigns have fun playing the game. I'm still buying the games to support AGEOD, but I have to say I could not bring myself to play any of the 30YW, English Civil War or WoS. Apart from gameplay issues...

Re: Not enough scenarios - biggest problem of Ageod games

I have to say that I share Taillebois' opinion. For me, any scenario/campaign that exceeds 30-40 turns is a pass. I don't even touch it as I know I'm never going to finish it. Especially since I'm that kind of gamer who feels bad whenever he gives orders without thinking them through. And the huge s...

Re: Silesia Inrupta - work in progress mod

Well. Unfortunately real life and earning money got in the way :/. Also, I think I just had to make too many compromises and work-arounds to get to the tactical/operational level where I wanted to go, not even to speak of all the workload. So I'm afraid this project is on hold. I just hope that one ...

For RoP, there is an entry in the GameLogics file:

ldrMaxNbCombiUnits = 0 // Nb Max of Units in a CombinedUnit

Apparently, it depends on the number of units, not of elements/subunits.

One quick thought: Could it be that this information is used for the order of units in the user interface unit-tab at the bottom of the screen? Something along the line: leaders > combined units/bigades > infantry > cavalry > artillery > support? The units get sorted from left to right according to ...

Afaik: ModelType0-x = "model-alias"|"number" This determines which ("model alias") and how many ("number") elements/subunits the unit contains when you use it in a scenario set-up. You can look up the model-alias in aliases/mdl_Alias where you can find the number of the respective model-file in Game...

Thank you, Nikel! How in the world did you find the march of the "Sensenschmiede" (scythe-smiths)? I really like it. :) The dum and fife pieces sound nice indeed, but the legal problem remains. Latest addition from Transylvania ("Siebenbürgen"): a Kálnoky hussar. There is quite a lot of confusion on the uniform in the different sources. Morier (War of the Austrian Succession) has them dark blue with yellow lacing, the Albertina Manuscript 1762 light blue-red with yellow lacing, the "Bautze...

Indeed the role of Poland is not really tackled in any account of the Third Silesian War. Iit needs to be mentioned that Poland theoretically remained neutral during the Third Silesian War. It suffered a lot from the Prussia-induced coin-debasement and from armies (esp. Russian) marching through the...

Watch out. As far as I know, the number of hits a unit has influences its weight in target selection. In terms of retreats, no amount of polling through forums is going to convince me it's working correctly. Look at the battle below. Mack is still in Stuttgart. So in what ways does the abstraction of the game fail to deliver historically plausible results? I'm not sure if all model-stats should be taken very literally. I think it's more important that the end-result of battles is plausible, not the minutae of the battle-resolution. It depends on what each ...

Somehow, I think we're missing each others points. Battles are ended if 1) one side retreats (due to voluntary retreat or auto-retreat as described in the link I posted) before a combat round (even before the first) 2) the "day" ends after the fixed number of rounds of battle with no side having ret...

The assessment of the situation of the habsburg forces gives us a lot of options. I opted for a conservative approach: The main army will stay put in defensive posture, while we will again send out skirmishers to remind the Prussians of our main asset. Since the army will now remain in defensive pos...
