Re: How old are you guys ?

54 in two weeks, feel like it in body, but enthusiasm for war-games grows yearly and will never die! :dada:

I've never paid only $20 for a PC game on initial release, so if this game is "missing" some scenarios, that's ok with me. I understand some of the worry of the AGEOD/Paradox mix, but I'd rather have this company survive by merging with Paradox than die out like so many other independent developers ...

I've seen Athena go after Harrisburg early in the war with a substantial force, which withered on the vine for a lack of supplies. That's the worse, but, overall, I have to admit that for a while it did scare the bejesus out of me!

And I think I still have that on a shelf in a closet somewhere in the house. Yes, not playable solo, because I tried, and it just didn't work. If some company could secure the license and make it work for PC, it would be great!

Then I stand corrected, Gray, so thanks for the info. It's been a while since I had a Steam game, but, like you, I prefer Ageod's system much better.

Personally, I can't stand Steam. When I want to play a game, I just want to fire it up and go. I don't want to have to log in to a server online and then access my games, which takes so much longer. I understand why some people like it, but I've tried it, and dislike it intensely, to the point that ...

Artillery may be the God of War, but it's the lowly grunt that has to take and hold the ground. In the end, the infantry is always at the sharp end, and wins or loses the battle. You can't hold an objective with artillery. Infantry is the "Queen of Battle." A curious name for grunts, but then I didn...

BOA 2 is easier overall, expecially considering the supply situtation and the organization and command rules in AACW. You don't have as many units in BOA 2/WIA, so you don't have to worry about the command penalties as much, and you certainly don't have to worry about forming divisions, corps, or ar...

Actually, that was what I meant. If, in real life, Little Mac had good "Strategic Vision," then how is that modelled in the game? I think GS and Cro both answered that for me. Knowing of course that Mac inflated all the numbers of the enemy, then the player is the only one who has that "vision," and...

Five copies of the complete set? Does that mean you have a total of 25 books? You should spread them around then, because they're hard to come by. In fairness to your hero, I'm currently going through Donald Stoker's A Grand Design, which is about strategy and the Civil War. He gives McClellan much ...

Grant as a Military Commander was written by J.F.C. Fuller. A great book by a noted and very well-respected military historian, who also wrote the three-volume Military History of the Western World. I think Da Capo Press still publishes the Grant book. If you can find it, also check out the five vol...

I kept him out west, but he just refused to activate no matter what happened, so my troops ended up sitting there while the AI danced all around him. I finally got wise and moved him far, far away to use as a training officer. I felt like Lincoln did: If McClellan had no use for his army, would he m...

Well, at 46 I started with AH's Outdoor Survival game (I think that's what it was called), but the first wargame was Panzer Leader. I really wanted to start with Squad Leader, but being in the 7th grade at the time, I thought it was too far above me, so I started with something else first. Then I ra...

I replied to Staples that this was for private use, and gave them the link to the thread that allowed people to download the manual from the forum site. They told me that if I wanted to print it, that would be fine, but they were a commercial printer, so it was not for private use, so they would nee...

Manual printing copyright permission

So I purchased the game, and sent the manual to Staples online to print through their copy center. They tell me that because they are printing it and not me, they would need permission from the copyright holder (AEGEOD) in order to print it. If I print it, no problem, since I purchased it. I haven't...

Merry Christmas to all, both designers and players!

Merry Christmas to all here! New to posting, long time reader and follower of the forums. I plan to use the holidays to FINALLY begin some of these wonderful games that I just haven't had the time to try yet. I have AACW, NCP, WIA, and just got WWI for Christmas from the wife. Any recommendations wh...
