You can also take ships that are built in Chicago and run them down the Illinois river to the Mississippi near St. Louis. Only takes a few days.

Fort renamed?

Playing as the CSA, I took Louisville and built a fort there. It was named Fort Jefferson. I placed a leader with the fort defender trait inside the fort along with around 2000 men. Later in the game I noticed the fort was now named Fort Franklin Gardner. What makes this a little more odd is the fac...

When playing as the USA, you will be given a large amount of volunteer brigades that have 2 militia and one light infantry. The militia will eventually become conscript infantry and then regular infantry. You can speed up the second part of the process by placing these units in a stack that includes...

As the USA, it is better to build your divisions piece by piece instead of using the brigades that come with the 6lb artillery pieces. There will be a few elite brigades that appear which I like to build divisions around. Usually these will consist of around 4 infantry and a sharpshooter(the Philade...

I may have seen this before, but I would like to see a an option for when mobilization can take place. Playing against Athena you have to use mobilization immediately to keep up with her. The CSA began using a draft in April of '62. The Union draft evolved a bit starting with a militia draft in stat...

One idea I have for AACW2 involving epidemics is to make the possibility of an outbreak greater when units from different states or regions are brought together. I have seen the Union build a depot at Cherokees which attracted over 500 supply. This provides a good launching point for attacks into Texas. I don't want to deal with that as the south so I usually go ahead and destroy the villages except for Ft. Gibson which is too far away to worry about.

I have often built at Paducah as the CSA and it makes it seriously tough to take West Tennessee for the Union, at least for a couple of years. I usually put a decent sized garrison in the fort to hold it. Remember to put at least a Columbiad in the fort to bombard Union ships at the confluence. Putt...

I would suggest never using Columbiads or coastal artillery to build forts. In the west, call up four 6 pounders from Louisana and then use those to help build a fort. These with river transports in Memphis will get you a fort in a key spot. Then place the coastal or Columbiad in the fort to bombard...

The way I see it, is that the Signal Corps becomes obsolete once the Corps command structure is adopted by both sides in March of 62. If the USA wants to make a major invasion in 1861, a good way to gain an advantage is by using the signal corps. They can also be a help in Missouri/Arkansas with lea...

You put McCulloch's force in a bad spot. Splitting your force like that meant you couldn't handle a threat into any of the three regions you put them in. Buell's force of 44,000 would have overwhelmed any of those 3 divisions. Pick a strong point and defend the hell out of it. Make a line of three s...

Hey all, just had a few things i was wondering about tonight. 1. When you order rail transport to be destroyed in an area, is it rendered useless on the first day of the next turn? 2. In a recent game as the Union, I found a nice use for Little Mac. Every 5 turns or so I just needed to buy the SS, cav, and cannons I wante...

1. Does anyone feel it is a little gamey to dig trenches with two or three divisions and then have a single unit-say militia or supply-maintain those trenches while the divisions that built them is sent off to battle elsewhere and then come back to benefit from the entrenchment level? 2. What is the...
