Tonight I had the game crash on me during the winter of 1863 in my current campaign. No big deal, I'll just reload from the last save. Except now when I reboot the game and select "load game" the game crashes. So I reboot my computer, and try again. Guess what? Yep, hitting "load game" causes the g...

I believe that if the 2 forces arrive at seperate times, then it should be handled as 2 seperate engagements with no bonus for flanking. But if a force is forced to fight on 2 seperate fronts it is only basic logic that they should have to do so at a disadvantage. Also if a force is engaged and it ...

Also a leader who was active last turn gets a +1 to this turn's strategic rating. So your fours and fives leaders can be quite dependable. And any leader with a strategic rating of 6 or higher and fail his check by rolling a six followed by a second six (a special die-roll for leaders rolling a six...

I should think this would figure into frontage rules. If a stack already can only engage a single division against the enemy why would bring additional divisions to the region help. And in addition to the advantages of flanking, consider the potential risks. An enemy backed against the river would b...

Move whatever is slowing unit 2 to unit 1 so it moves slower or at the same speed. Once I learned how ZoCs work I stopped including supply wagons directly in my stacks and instead have them follow a few days later.

It may be the rare case, but I think Buford at Gettysburg is an example where a small force held vital ground while waiting for a larger force. Even if it wasn't entrenchment you still see that effect. Perhaps a small militia force would find and establish vital entrenchment points that would make i...

I wouldn't attack in your position. Sometimes it works if they're not on the defensive and are moving their forces somewhere else leaving that lone corps helpless, but likely they'll reinforce when you attack and Fredricksburg you. I always assume worst case. If I'm attacking and hoping their corp ...

I hope in the future (AACW2!) the method of switching ledgers is more obvious. I love the wide variety of filters but hate reading the manual for minutae, and it took me forever to stumble across it. Hehe I copied you, hope you don't mind! As I said in another thread, I loved playing with them as a ...

At the bottom of the filter buttons is a button without an icon. Clicking it will switch to the other set of filter buttons you are familiar with, including I believe the second which is 2-stars, the general filter button.

Hope that helps, I ran into the same problem and found it by accident.

I hadn't looked into ZoC at all, and misunderstood it to be a positive thing (the red areas only seemed to show up for my large stacks, so I assumed it meant I had a lot of control). I think the game incorrectly models this, because a large force could be harassed by a relatively small one, but not ...

Does your stack have an injured general in it? That would lock it down. If so, just remove him from the stack. Nope, everyone is healthy. The stack isn't locked, it's being prevented from moving by McCulloch. Out of curiosity, why did they move into the city in the first place? Okay I li...

Stuck in a city

Immediately following a successful assault on Fredricksburg the NVA was moved inside Fredicksburg, while Benjamin McCulloch's Winchester Militia (18/18) was either displaced or moved into the region outside the city. Corps have not been activated yet. NVA cannot move out of the city, either to the r...

I realize this thread is old, but I just wanted to mention my absolute favorite innovation from AACW. I love so many things about it, but the one thing that makes it stand out from an enjoyment-playability aspect is that the game does not resort to artificial means to balance AI (as far as I know), ...

Gpepper, Do you by chance do freelance work? I'm not in the position at the moment, but if I ever got the ball rolling on a project I would love to have portraits similar to these, and I can think of no better person to go to (why get a copy when you can get an original?). I'd rather see more effort on new titles. I think we're all hoping AACW2 is somewhere on the horizon, the sooner it gets here the better.

I do like the colors and overall look, but I would prefer it if the cities and port symbols looked a bit more like they might look for real...not just symbolic buttons plunked down, but more "organic" as they might be seen from space. Just my opinion...but the map is definitely going in the right d...

IIRC the corps limit is the Army commander's strategic rating +6, but I haven't tested it so don't take my word for it.

From What's not in the Manual : What do those green, yellow, and red lights mean, at the base of each unit's icon? The more of these lights are lit, the larger the size of the force. Green means that they're at full strength, or nearly so; while at the opposite extreme, red means that either the uni...

Noted, but not sure if it'll get reworked anytime soon, there are far too many more important items to rework than a relatively unknown regional name switch that would probably cost over a day's time to correct. Thanks for the feedback. Gah I had no idea! Just thought I would mention it, since I li...

Unless there is some history of which someone knows better than I, I believe Warwick, VA should be named either Suffolk or Smithfield. Warwick is on the other side of the James, in the same region as Hampton.

Edit: The region, not the city. The city is already named Suffolk.

Thanks for the replies! I think I went a bit army crazy and I'd have been better off just using fewer armies, but it's too late for that now. Corps being assigned to wrong Army

I've got two armies in close proximity, and I'm trying to assign a corps to a specific one. The corps is in the same region as the army I want, but instead is getting assigned to the army 1 region over (which is enroute to this region). I've searched the forums and tried several key combos but so fa...
