I would love to see shorter turns allow the player to respond quicker to an enemy march. Two weeks is a long time to be stuck with the same orders.

Polybius writes of the disaster off Camarina: "The blame must be laid not so much on ill-fortune as on the commanders; for the captains had repeatedly urged them not to sail along the outer coast of Sicily, that turned towards the Libyan sea, as it was very rugged and had few safe anchorages: they a...

Ships are coffins

Storms at sea are way too strong in this game. Time and again I have seen my fleets annihilated in a single turn. I never leave port in the winter, but even in the "safe" months, there is a high chance of finding your fleet gone before you can react. In the latest example I tried to cross the Adriat...

I should not have focused my initial post on intercepting armies. The fundamental problem is the inability to react to circumstances. Ageod games strive for realism; that's why I love them. I just feel that waiting a month between turns detracts from that. So many details are well done, but in the b...

I think that with fog of war, inactive generals, and the evade combat order, there is plenty of opportunity to represent a dynamic leader getting the jump on the opposition. The reason I don't like 30 day turns is that the inability to react has nothing to do with the skill of the generals or the ci...

Perhaps you could point out a time or two when one army stole a 30 day march on another nearby army. Did commanders look at their enemy across the Tiber and say, "We have to march all the way to the Alps if we hope to keep up with them." only to discover the enemy had instead gone to Sicily by the t...

Why 30 day turns?

I am a bit disappointed by the long turns in AJE. If there is one thing I would change in ACW, it would be to reduce the turns to one week. Instead the turns are even longer here. The main disadvantage of long turns is that you can't react to your opponent's moves for an entire month. This makes it ...

I just got this game and started playing 1.01 as POP. I came to the same conclusion, so this thread caught my eye. I was unable to dislodge 3 legions with no leader (pwr 700 or so) even with an army of 60,000 (pwr 3000+) under my best leaders. I repeatedly brought up reserves and attacked again but ...

Confederate Printing

I am concerned that the CSA printing option is overpowered. I haven't seen it discussed in a while, so I'm wondering if people still regard this as a problem. For the US it's less of an issue because the 2 NM hit is pretty significant, especially in the early game, and because the US is not so strap...

The 63 scenario is very difficult for the CSA. As Charles indicated, the lack of supply is challenging even without Union interference. As the US, I could rely on supply trouble to do much of the work of dislodging the CSA from strong positions. This game should be regarded as interesting, but not a...

I haven't played a lot lately, but it seems that the CSA can generate more resources per turn from shipping than the Union with less than 1/5th the total number of ships. Blockade runners should be able to bring in only a modest amount under normal circumstances. They are not a replacement for havin...

My experience is that US and CSA shipping is almost backward. US transports are very effective, until you factor in commerce raiders. With a moderate number of ships CSA can undermine US shipping (maybe I need to guard them better, not sure if that matters). The CSA can bring in resources steadily a...

I am surprised you did not find the 1 week turns to be worth it. To me, the long wait before I can react to a developing situation is one of the few weaknesses of this game. You can retrieve a savegame from the saves folder, the last turn will be backup1. You have to rename it. You can also revert to a previous turn by hovering over the option to load the game and pressing the "HOME" key.

I know it's been mentioned before, but it bothers me that the fort region doesn't defend itself. Landing a fleet in Hickman, KY will get you bombarded, but landing a fleet directly at Island 10 (Lake, TN) will not.

I am looking for a game. I played a one-year scenario in PBEM a few years ago, and I know the basics. I have never hosted, but I'm sure I could figure it out if I had to. Demand side of economy neglected

It seems to me that there needs to be a much more detailed system for domestic demand. Most of the attention I have seen is on fixing the supply side by making factories/rails more expensive or decreasing goods available. I think that what is equally important is to develop a more flexible system fo...
