AFAIK, all units within a region do participate in a battle to some degree. Some of the units may only be involved for a single turn (or 2?), but they should all be involved at first. This is not correct. In fact depending on circumstances very few of the units in a particular region may be involve...

I know that winning or losing a significant battle can cause you to gain or lose NM but I'm not sure if the number of casualties in and of themselves effect the NM gain/loss. Also as I understand the rules the longer the war drags on general war weariness is supposed to begin to set in and effect NM...

Okay, the final turns have been played, and the Final Results Window for both games are as follows: Both games end in a Stalemate. Final Victory Points totals [both games] are: Jim-NC = 163 MVDH = 150 I interpret this to mean that Jim-NC wins, and moves on to Round 2. Thanks to both players, they w...

Game Result

Hi All:

My hearty congratulations to my esteemed opponent in my tournament game Jim-NC. We split our games both winning as the CSA but I lost on victory points by my count 160-144. It was close and great fun. Congratulations, thanks for the game and good luck in round 2.

Which side am I playing?

I don't play with any house rules. I have 5 full campaign games going on right now, 3 of them official ladder games in the Civil War gaming club I joined. I have seen absolutely no need for them and almost all of my opponents agree. We just enjoy this great game as is, i.e. by far the best strategic...

Union Player

Hi All:

Looking for a Union player. My suggested rules: historical leaders, historical attrition, long delay. I think these rules give the most realistic game. If interested PM me.

IMHO the AI is mediocre at best. If you have any grasp of strategic movements it will pose no challenge. Cranking the difficulty only turns its soldiers into supermen. I'd recommend playing by email if you need a challenge. That being said, it is the best money I've ever spent on a game. I second B...

Hi: I have one PBEM as the Union and looking for a rebel game so I am interested. Currently playing historical leaders, historical attrition and long delay, ala the Banks and Soundoff AAR rules. AACW is the very best simulation of the period out there. Period. I bought the game over a year ago and have been playing it ever since...something which I've NEVER done with any game. Hey Banks, I for one would follow along this thread if it lasted 'till all 114 turns. Between the two of you, I've learned a lot in the ol' AACW textbook, but I think there's mor...

I do wonder how this game would have played out if they had adopted more historical mobilization houses rules - limiting CSA mobilization until April 1862 and limiting USA mobilization till March 1863? It seems to me that the balance is too much in the north's favor otherwise, if the union player i...

Lee's gamble

Lee's attack at Grant's Amherst depot seems to have failed because McDowell MTG. However, I think it was an excellent bold stroke and had it succeeded Banks could have stalled the entire Union Virginia offensive. Now it seems Banks faces an extremely tough situation but as long as he holds both Rich...

Cool Plan Indeed

General Banks! What a bold and audacious plan! Brilliant conception, worthy of Lee himself. When his back was to the wall and he could Lee would always attack first, defend second. Good luck. If you should succeed and drive the Union forces out of Virginia Davis should make you the Souths first Fiel...

Is anyone else still chuckling over the historically disastrous attempt to combine Van Dorn and McCulloch in Arkansas? @MDVH: The quote is actually something along the lines of: "I propose to fight it out on this line if it takes all summer." Florida Supply

Hi Soundoff: I think I may know why your depot was not drawing in supply when you were down in Franklin Florida. I noticed that the harbor exited into a river region, not a coastal region. Standalone depots are still subject to capture if left non-prot...

AI Railroad Repair

First off I have to say I love this game. First bought Forge of Freedom, then bought GG War Between the States (very good game as well) and finally AACW. Bought this one last because I thought it might be too complicated and a little too much micro-management involved. BUT, while it is a deep and so...
