Defending I'd always try to cover all ground on the front. You have a big advantage as defender, more and more the longer the war lasts. Even if the enemy is superior in numbers, you could inflict some damage on him before you retreat. I always try to make sure the enemy doesn't get that bonus for b...

Just drag and drop the detachment on one of the army listed in the box below that detachment. You may see an error message in the log when this action is not allowed, in case nothing happened. This happens mostly because of overstacking.

For the purchase menu, just click on the recruitment point icon in the upper left corner. Then the window should open where you can build units, ships etc.

That is true, but I also observed this error in AI sieges. I think this is rather some general problem than something with the interceptions, so I guess it is worth a try. But you might also want to wait till Calvinus himself comes around and tells you about it. He's the real expert here.

Did you try this?

If it is the same error, I believe Calvinus has already found the solution for it.

Yes, I observed the same, I had the same phenomenon like you. The game is not running and occupying system resources in the background, it just doesn't move on. But that's why I say it's hard for Calvinus to trace as it is probably not reproduceable in his environment. Let's hope he gets some illumi...

It is a weird thing, I can tell you. I had the same error like you, but then suddenly it worked. I had a different freeze, ran the game as Administrator (really log in as "Administrator" in XP, not just with admin rights), no freeze anymore. Ran the same savegame afterwards with my normal user - no ...

For the naval transport: Click the naval transport button and then drag the army to the overseas target province. The program should trace a line across the ocean then and execute the movement at turn's end.

I think I have the same one (if they provided me with the correct link). I definitely have the new map (north is up), so it should be beta as well.

If your feedback is so different, I'll go back to the game and observe it more closely. I have the impression I saw several of those battles, but I may be mistaken. One thing is true, I did see the AI break up some hopeless battles (the Ottomans against the British in Palestine, for example). I gues...

Tested the stack management feature yesterday (it was there all the time, I just did not see it). This is great! Excellent improvement, makes that reorganizing a LOT easier. Now give me the NW report and I'll be happy - maybe. ;-) How is the AI performing in your game, by the way? In mine I am still...

Another thing I noticed when I played this game: Suddenly my French parliament shifted one box to the left. I don't know where this came from or what caused this. Would it be possible to alert the player whenever this happens? After all, parliament support is very important.

Jorrig's improvement proposals

I'd like to post some experiences from my recent game which might help improving the game. Calvinus, you implemented those arrows on the upper left corner to switch countries. This is very nice although the arrows could be a little bigger. Could you provide similar switching of countries for other s...

Already did this. Germany is far too static for my taste. I might want to try to restart the whole game if the Germans don't shape up. But I feel the AI really improved, that's good work! Let's see if it can be challenging!

For anybody interested, I started another AAR in our German forum (in German) with the Gold version. As Maestro took the Germans I'll try my luck with the French. Wish me good luck!

No, not implemented. I stressed my attention on AI, game interface and gameplay improvements. For the time being, the messages customization panel window does not help you? If you set the NW messages display on popup screen, you can see more clearly all events that affect NW. I am just enjoying ano...

Do you work with neural networks? I really like this approach of designing an AI, at least to some degree. I thought about something like this here: http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2004/09/30/AIforGameDev.html If you save input factors, decision and feedback of each game, the AI improves from gam...

Thanks for the feedback, Calvinus, I believe you that it's a complex game and first effort goes to stability and gameplay before improving the ai. To point 3: It was not lack of RP, Russia had about 50, but was still fighting with damaged units. It was even attacking with those units! Does the AI kn...

Some remarks on the AI

I noticed several strange behaviour in the AI in my game. I'll make a short list, which is surely not complete. (All of this applies to the movement doctrine in 1914) 1. The AI seems to be over-aggressive in winter time. While I stand still because attacks are costly, the AI runs into my well-prepar...

Maybe you dare asking him yourself. ;) I'm just checking if the game is worth its money and try to inform my forum colleagues about the principles of the game. So far, I really like it. But now I have to go back to my game, I wonder how my armies fare in the trench war. (On peut m'écrire en francais...
