Ah, no harm done! I've only been a regular visitor to this board in the last few years, so I don't think I'd come across either of you before. And I did miss the obvious disclaimer there.

What are your sources for this story, if you don't mind me asking? I'm not seeing anything popping up about any of this browsing around the internet, and in fact there are other "explanations" about where the Beattles got the idea and name from. Not to mention that I'm not aware of any mid-19th cent...

"Grant as Military Commander" was not written by Fuller, unless he was using a pseudonym for some reason. The cited author is James Marshall-Cornwall, a former UK military officer. At least that is the case with my copy and what shows up on Amazon when I type in the title. Fuller did write about Gra...

I agree. Sometimes less historical accuracy makes for a far more entertaining game. I would also like the random stat generator for generals to be modified to include "fictional generals who didn't make it" and also their modifiers only revealed after they have fought a corresponding battle. For ex...

Is this ACW2 a realistic expectation? When? Before or after Armegeddon? t I don't know about "expectation" but given the devs continued presence in this forum and the fact that AACW is one of the better selling Ageod titles, it's at least a possibility that we could see a sequel. However, that isn'...

I reckon few would want to play, for example, an ACW game where its a forgone conclusion that you could not take the part of the CSA and perform as well as, if not better, than actually occured. Yet the sad truth is that the conflict should not have lasted as long as it did.....had the Union applie...

There's only one thing I like better about FoF and that has to do with its alternate leader ability/ratings options. While it's nice that AACW let's you play with the variation a bit, you still have the advantage of being able to know who your best leaders are by looking at them as soon as they appe...

Actually, there's just as much activity as always for games already released. Not sure if that's a forum error or not though. A forum (I'm ...

Maps are fun and funny at the same time. Despite reading about the ACW for years, studying maps, and playing games based on the subject, it was only recently that I realized that Birmingham, Alabama, which is the biggest city in the state today, didn't exist in CW times. And only a few years ago tha...

It would be great if AACW2 had an option for semi-random hidden system for leader attributes (as seen in many ACW games), and the automatic non-sensical (IMO :) ) "historical" dates could be left for those who prefer to play the game as if it was a history book :) Yes, it might mean Mac actually ge...

if the game accuratly followed the rules of 'chain of command' these promotions wouldnt be a problem.generals do not suborn a command simply becouse theyre in the same area or(gamewise)the same stack.they have to be appointed to a command unless things are done differently in the U.S. At the time o...

If there ever ends up being a sequel, this is one of the things I'd like to see changed. I really don't enjoy the game forcing historical things on the player that may not reflect anything that happens in the game. For example, in real life McClellan got promoted up due to his success in western Vir...

You are correct that only two of the ten happened in 1864. However, four of the ten involved Grant; which I think was the point Colonel Dreux was trying to make. I was specifically responding to Dreux's focus on 1864 and Grant. I'm not arguing that there weren't some bloody battles involving the gu...

That isn't entirely why the soldiers of the I Corps cheered for McClellan on July 1, 1863... they huzza'd him because they saw him as the victor of South Mountain and Antietam. It wasn't that he just cared for them, but Antietam was considered a great victory by the North, i.e., McClellan kicked Le...

One last comment about McClellan though. I've been reading David G. Martin's book, "Gettysburg July 1" book, which is considered the most comprehensive book on the first day's battle at Gettysburg. Martin writes that apparently in the I. Corps a rumor was spread that McClellan was back in charge of...

I'd argue that ASJ's ratings should be higher for one reason in particular: Davis has a pretty good track record in terms of his other top general picks at the beginning of the war. He decided that AS Johnston belonged in the same group as Lee, JE Johnston, and, reluctantly, Beauregard. Look at how ...

I've seen it go both ways. In my last game I lost two division commanders when their divisions fell apart but an attached two star to one of them (independent division) was simply injured and locked into Denver(!) for a few months. My guess is that there is some randomness to it. Perhaps the surviva...

They should be okay if they can end their turn movement in supply. But during harsh weather that usually means in a supplied structure. Also, if you can move a supply wagon to them you can buy them time. It's hard to maintain battle lines in the winter without supply units. The problem is that even...

Probably the step you are missing is you have to go to the "Reinforcement" screen and under support units select "Army HQ" to be built. You can't forget the reality of the difficulties attackers faced in the Civil War when trying to measure the "quality" of the troops. McPherson would also be my choice if you could only choose just one. Just keep in mind that most of the classic works on the war are biased in some way or another. What would you want these generals to do if this was added to the game? How would they affect gameplay and/or reflect the troubles with the Federal command system? As far as inconsistencies...
