Boardgame Geek

As a collector of vintage board and card games, I think this site is the best boardgame site on the Web -- http://www.boardgamegeek.com/

The front page is a complete mess, but the real strength of the site is a very complete and detailed searchable database of board and card games.

1. Wiki need to have better links and "advertising" (not later than last week, a friend told me the better way for him to find the AACW-WIKI link is still to look randomly in the forums to see a user who got the link inside it's signature...). The Wiki is advertised and linked to in a sticky post a...

I suggest you read the Supply article in the Wiki, here: http://ageod.nsen.ch/aacwwiki/Supply and the detailed supply thread here http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?p=132957 * Keep a wagon with your formations. The Wiki's great, but it's still nice for peoiple to have easy access to the entire thread and all of the discussion. I think it makes sense to have a single sticky thread that consists of links to the most useful informational threads in the forum. One problem with the Wiki is that it won't let you...

Sorry, I personally am not interested in a job done half way, but then again, thats the purpose of MODs... to placate those who want to experiment. Hopefully, we'll get some official support to make these issues go away and then the 4 turns per month campaign scenario can be made into a workable re...

Several months back there was a discussion beteen me and Pocus concerning entrenchement levels and how they are currently implemented in the game. Nothing has come of it yet for AACW, but the idea was to tie the entrenchment level to the region itself with the build rate affected by the size of the...

Putting a militia dug in for the attackers to fall back on and get entrenchment again is impossibly 'gamey'. I have to disagree. Yes, it does seem pretty "gamey" to leave a single militia element to hold entranchments open to retreat into. But, if you don't leave that militia element the entrenchme...

I'll try the Windows key. Thanks for the tip. If I alt-tab while playing, I get a split-second glimpse of the desktop before instnatly returning to the game. I was thinking maybe I don't have enough free memory, or whatever the appropriate techie term is.

Even worse, it looks like you have to do the promotion in the turn on which it applies. I have just won a major battle and had three officers in a Corps up for promotion - I decided to leave it until the final fight was resolved rather than disorganise the Corps that turn. This turn they are no lon...

I think Pocus means that as you cannot create a "port" during game, the supply system just considers any coastal region as having some place along their coast where ships can anchor and send supplies to land units. Not a proper harbor (like the one shown on map) but a minor "anchorage" place where ...

Pocus - I'll try to send the saved game tonight or this weekend, but your comment about "anchorage" might be the key to the problem. I'm not sure what you mean by "dynamic creation of an anchorage." Does the region with the coastal depot have to have an anchorage to receive ocean supply, and if so, ...

Banks - Good point about marching to the guns - somehting a corps can do but an independent division can't. Given that, yes i can see the value in a cavalry corps. Also, given their fast move, I guess they can march to the guns faster than a mixed corps. I've just never made a cavalry corps because ...

What is an effective grouping under an officer? I've tried to keep every division, and thus every corps, grouped with a good variety of units. As far as I know...to receive sea supply...any depot WOULD definitely need a harbor. At least that's what common sense tells me. If the ships don't have a Harbor to park in...it's hard to move supplies to and fro. Well, that certainly makes sense, and it's what I would have expected if I had not se...

I guess we'll wait for Pocus to enlighten us. I was under the impression that you had to have a harbor in order to receive sea supply. Pocus' statement is pretty unambiguous. But... it looks like it's also pretty wrong. I just ran a test, building a coastal depot in Florida and parking a division o...

Harbors and depots are 2 entirely different stuctures. Depots of course, pull in supply, but if in a coastal region without a harbor, they will not pull supply via the naval supply routines. You would need both. Gray - here's the relevant quote from Pocus: Supply by sea is completely different, don...
