Apoliges. Real life stepped in and work became somewhat overwhelming. When I have time, which should be within the next week, I'll revert the combat system back to base game. I'm not seeing any complaints on this anymore. I don't have time to unit test changing the combat model myself, so this is th...

Late May, 1861 Foreign Entry dropped to -31. Guess I should be happy. I now have builds. I'm going to build up for defensive checkpoints in the west, but primary builds are in the east. Getting cheap 6 lp arty in addition. I can hope that Kentucky stays out of war until 1862, so I'm going to try to ...

Late April, 1861 And already.....the CSA declared a complete embargo and failed, so foreign intervention is already at -33%. Sigh. Nothing to build so I threw production in INF replacements. CSA starts with almost 200 hits in heavy guns and INF. Not going to put a dime into them. Way too expensive. ...

Winning the Unwinnable - Vicberg (CSA) vs. John (Union) - No John Please

Early April, 1861 Second time trying CSA and I'm going to attempt to do what I laid out in my last AAR as Union with John. Try to choke John off at various points and force him to attack me. We'll see if this can do it. I may be attacking to Alexandria to Harpers. There's won't be attacks elsewhere....

Playing a long game is being nice. Maximize the game as it stands and it becomes a crushing 1862 with it ending in 1863. The only thing the CSA can do to stop this is either 1) attack the Union early and drive down NM and/or 2) place themselves in positions the Union HAS to attack and hope they win.

You have to move one army commander away from theater. Corps will assign themselves to closest army leader and if two are about same distance then the one with higher seniority. You won't need two army commanders anyway within the same area. In my experience, corps work better working under the same...

Early March, 1963 John has accepted surrender. McDowell, Milroy converged in Late February onto Richmond, won a battle against Lee. Richmond held out but the remaining corps of Kearny, Howard and Reynolds were converging on Richmond. I didn't see turn results, but really didn't have to. The manpower...

I'm not sure I understand why West Virginia had to be defined as a separate state at all. Missouri and Kentucky both allow creation of forces by both sides, yet the idea of Union recruiting in Virginia is a stumbling block for many people. I'm not certain, but I believe there are ways you could res...

Observations Playing the CSA is tough. If the Union simply does everything it can to amass troops as fast as possible, it can be a challenge for the CSA. The CSA can do nuisance raiding in attempts to draw off troops, but the union can counter that with Cav Divisions and or small corps to deal with ...

Early February, 1862 In the west, there's barely 2 rebel divisions to stand against 13 divisions with 2 more forming up. In the east, there's barely 5 divisions against 20 divisions. I was going to post more battle reports. Lee retreated from Howards Cor...

Late January, 1862 My NM is up to 132. This opens tons of opportunities for the Union as a Draft or Full Mobilization is easily doable. Full emancipation is enough by itself to meet Union manpower needs. After Bonds and Taxes and after building 3 divisions in the East and another 2 in the West, I st...

CSA is tough. Double tough. If the Union completely fails, the CSA has the ability to capitalize, but it really requires Union (poor) play to happen.

I can't tell from his ARR what is actually going on. I agree on Vicksburg. I took it in a game with Tyler. I then realized what a waste it was. The only benefit is that there's a rail line out of Jackson, the ONLY rail line into NO and if taken can stop any possible counter attack on NO. The only re...

Early November, 1862 There is such a thing as attacking too much. My NM is now up to 121 after this combat. Sadly, Wallace was killed in the battle. Late October, 1862

I'm definitely seeing an increase in Rebel Arty. NM jumped to 111.

McDowell held in Fredericksburg.

Pope pushed south from Humboldt and held.

Grant retreated from Winchester

A few comments on your game Cardinal with the limited screen shots provided 1) What happened to Grant? Did he die? 2) If CSA is able to secure Alexandria -> Harpers, the way to loosen that up is Norfolk. CSA will generally respond with troops from the Eastern Front, increaseing opportuniies to break...

Objectives I try to not pay attention to them. I try to not pay attention to NM as it affects my game play. I don't go for a 1865 game. I want to end it in 1863. Early September, 1862 My NM is now 107. Union is going on the offensive. If the Rebel armies keep getting whittled down in their attacks, there will be nothing left by end of this year. Late August, 1862 I'm paying a 1.5 premium for volunteers and full emancipation. Full emancipation is a victory or bust approach, but I find that it helps overwhelm the CSA. My NM is up to 104. It's a very good long term play. Not knocking it at all. I prefer Richmond. All efforts on building troop to takes Richmond and the rest to stretch CSA forces elsewhere. One of the nice things about this game is the varied styles of play.

My strategy as Union is to build up a 6 or so riverclads (mostly for defense) and 4-6 ironclads (again, mostly for defense) and then all infantry. My NM is at 96. I'm positioned to push into Virginia. I think John's strategy won't work at this stage of the game. Union elite divisions are everywhere in the east. Late July ,1862 John is very aggressive. I was not expecting this. Talk about maneuver war? Expecting him to defend Culpepper and Spotsylvania, he went on the offensive with Lee. And though running into McDowells crack army, Wallace took the brunt of the assault. 39415...
