Early Union builds

The Union player is overwhelmed with choices on builds early in the game. Assuming I want to play fairly historically accurate in 61 as the Union and I have manual supply turned on for the navy, what should I build? I would like to launch amphibious assaults on the forts along the barrier Islands of...

In regards to the transport ships in the shipping lanes debate, I am assuming that you have the auto supply feature turned off and have to micromanage all shipping for the numbers people are quoting to be accurate? (I hate to micromanage the fleet like that but, I guess I might have too.)

So, these cards aren't very useful then. What cards are? If any?

Thank you everyone for the input and insight. Your thoughts have given me a better idea on what to do at the start. So here are some more questions, is it a good idea to build telegraph lines in places like Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, and Boston from the start? Or is it more effective to build th...

Some questions for Union players

I played AACW extensively but I have only played ACW II a little. I have some questions for Union players who primarily play against the AI. First, what is the most effective force for capturing shore forts. Is there any use in using siege artillery for capturing shore forts? Second, is paying for a...

I never liked the you had to have an HQ unit to form an Army concept in ACW 1. Why not just have a cap on the number or Army formations available to each side based on historical precedent? Similar in concept to the no Corps or Divisions before a certain date? That still limits the North's ability t...

How do state capitols effect the game?

I have noticed that the state capitols are listed on the map with the state flag next to the appropriate city. Aside from esthetics how (if at all) do state capitols effect the game?

I actually like the concept of not building some units unless you invest in war industries. The only thing I would change about it is that instead of making the choice a purely regional one, i.e. Connecticut, New England, Mid-Atlantic I would make it more of a size based decision and have a massive ...

Questions of building units and region improvements

I have several questions, First, I notice for example that while artillery is nominally available in places like Iowa you can't actually build any at the start of the game. Is it because I need to build industry in Iowa to do so? I noticed that a few turns into the game I have the national decision ...

I have two questions, First, is there a way to name saved games so I can actually find them? Two questions

Hi all, it's been a while since I have posted (or played) and I am about to start a new game. I have two questions, 1. How do you take screen shots? 2. How do you rename units? I know Army names are based on when an HQ is assigned to a leader but how do you rename the other units? Thanks in advance.
