I could've sworn this was a forum about a software game set in the American Civil War.

Re: Things I've been wrong about (or learned, or both)

You realllly don't understand what I'm saying. Not...at...all. First, my use of the phrase had to do with a parenthetical comment in reply to someone else. Second, the tactics I meant in that reply are modern tactics, as one may have surmised from the reply itself. If one goes to the webpage I menti...

Re: Could the South have won the Civil War?

Against my better judgment, I will give you an atom of leeway, before I state my concrete response. * Read the bolded part from my Wiki quote. Did you think I went off just that? Do you not suppose that a poster here may have done reading on a subject well before he quotes Wikipedia? To be perfectly...

Re: Re:

Hmm, I see. For me, I really don't know much about tactics and it is a weak point in my knowledge for sure. It's not germane to the ACW, but google 'modern infantry tactics' - there's a site that has a fascinating history of the evolution of tactics from the Franco-Prussian war on. Truly modern tac...

Re: Could the South have won the Civil War?

Mr. hanny1, Try not to be insulting. Try to understand that other people may be just as well informed, if not better. Try to reason. Your reasoning here is poor. Under the US Constitution, slavery could be legal, if a State enacted it as such. That didn't enjoin it on a polity. Go to Wikipedia and l...

I think if you go to the old AACW forum and Search for 'Checklist', you will find at least two threads, one for the Union, one for the CSA.

Re: Replacing Army Commanders

I don't think they'll ever do it, but the old Victory Games board game had a provision for Grant or Sherman commanding more than one Army. I think the rules restricted it to 1864 or after.

Pity.

Recent Short Battlefield Tour of Central VA

Coming back from a visit to Richmond, going to the residence in Annapolis, MD. Stopped by the site of the North Anna action (Grant/Lee, May, '64) and a quick pop-in at Fredericksburg. Had been to neither before. The North Anna site is apparently maintained by Hanover Cty., VA. Some Civil War Trust s...

Re: Who are more important, Corps or Division COs?

Really good Army COs can really help Corps COs. Open an 1863 Union start and look at Grant's Corps in the Vicksburg area: McClernand is a 5-4-4, IIRC. His base is something like 3-1-2 or maybe even less. In AACW, and a couple of times in CW2, I have put McClellan under Grant. Not bad at all, Grant r...

Re: Is National Morale WAD?

OK, so I get 40 NM for just parking my boots in the parlor. Fine by me. The other instance was unclear on the arithmetic, but I'm still a bit surprised: for the longest time, mighty efforts would get you 5 NM, maybe. Now I'm getting 15 for what I consider to be modest gains. I'll take it. Maybe a fl...

Re: The Blockade System Explained

From what I've seen, every structure producing any kind of income is affected. So it pays to close blockade Richmond eh? Not to beat an old horse too much, but this is what I was saying six months ago. If one would rather forego the Blue Tsunami strategy and pursue HiTek Union, then why not go for ...

Army Commander Kilt Daid

Hi guys, been away for a while. A lotta RL stuff, had to fix the laptop, yadda yadda. Anyhow, fired up an 1862 start, am in spring of '63. Relieved McClellan lately (historical, past due), put Rosecrans in NoVa, left Grant in the Center, 'cuzza wide Command Radius. So, Army of TN HQ gets involved in...

As Teatime detailed, Lee unlocks eventually and you can replace Joe Johnston (or maybe others) with him, with no penalties, IIRC.

It's difficult for the Union to make a real advance on Richmond that early, unless the Peninsula is favorable. Just too much going on in front of DC, generally. Too much to do, overall. Not impossible, just difficult.

Some side benefits to a big navy: * Already available if FI goes south. * G2, intelligence along the coast and rivers. * Naval invasions. * Landing Sailors. * Get the CSA player reacting to you. I built perhaps a tad too much on the blue water/brown blockade squadrons. I would build a bigger river f...

See my last thread about my game with havi. havi is not shy and retiring at all, he is quite aggressive. fiddlers25 had kicked me out of Alexandria, but I had HF; havi had HF, but I had NoVA in strength. If you've never seen it, The Horse Soldiers . Great? Dunno. Good solid film, though. Wayne liked it the best of all his work and he does a great job as the commander. William Holden is great as the acerbic MD who clashes with Wayne. GWTW is not a Civil War film. It is a film about a person named Sca...
