Daxil, I asked Rafiki to verify in another thread, but I tested it in a game where Athena had left the blue water. The transport added nothing to the brigs. Took the brigs away and nothing came in at all. Yes the transports are cheaper, but then you have to factor the cost of the protecti...

Transports can't do any raiding, but they can do blockade running; anything with transport capacity can. However, as was said, transports are "squishy" ;) Rafiki, Has this changed recently (1.11a)? I just tried it for the first time, but the transport brought in nothing. Only the brigs which brough...

Yeah, what Jabber said. Ignore all that random stuff. I assume the slight differences I saw in my "simulations" were that conscripts all have a % chance to train up to line status every turn present, so some go to line status on arrival?

From my understanding the point of the typical makeup is this: Cav in stack = better spotting - only need 1 to do this Arty = Adds firepower up to 4 units - more than 4 is a waste. Sharp = gives bonus to whole div - more than 1 is wasted. Inf = the meat for the grinder - max out after the special un...

AAR Etiquette Question

Appreciate all the current AAR's going on right now. I know the grand campaign has a thread for feedback/discussion. What is the etiquette for the other AAR's? Jabber and Banks seem to have an atypical AAR where they let everyone in on the moves and strategy, but Soundoff and Barksdale seem to have ...

That's a good question. I know how to spot them - From another thread by Arsan "Many of the brigades you receive by event or buy as reinforcements also have conscript elements (ha brigade can have a mix of normal an conscript elements). unit panel with a unit selected). That will open a Unit details...

Quick guess, but don't transports have 10X the capacity of brigs? So if it was 10X that would probably make it worth it. The only problem I see, is that as a Union player if I saw you put transports in that box I would come down pretty hard to try and wipe you out. Daxil, if I can I will experiment ...

Union is where I started. I love the strategic options with such a plentiful supply of men and resources. Something about being the aggressor makes the games fun. I actually enjoy the activation penalties. There is something so fun and frustrating when you give a General an order and he decides to s...

My family were Irish and German immigrants in West Tennessee around Jackson. All the ones we know of fought for the Union and after the war had to move to Martin, TN because the county folks were awfully hostile to the immigrant families who chose against the state. That's actually how my GG grandpa...

Banks:

Well I hoped you liked the advice, I think at least 90% of it is from reading your playbook :cwboy: but I was too lazy to put the citations!

Most of my knowledge of this game comes from reading this forum and the AARs.

Yes your trans-Miss looks about how I expected from the other shots. Remember the objective cities that you hold are basically the East Coast. While the possibility of your opponent taking Chicago is annoying, it is resource wasting to chase him all about the midwest when the real value is in the Ea...

I'm an old-timer in wargaming; though not quite as old as some I suppose. But do you guys remember No Greater Glory and those type of strategic war games. Those were dreamy days of bad AI, terrible graphical resolution, and either completely unpredictable outcomes or way too predictable outcomes, an...

Thanks

By the way, my sound errors are almost certainly from my machine, not your program. I play most games without sound, because this machine has always encountered sound errors in multiple apps.

Thanks guys for you speedy replies.

Piling on

Mark and support team. I am getting similar CTD on the 1.11 beta 2, but the French in Mexico event is not an issue, just a winding down and reseting to the next turn then pow! Load up and next turn goes on as usual. Also sent my save file and logs so maybe it will help resolve. Mark, I am an XP user...

Thanks for the help and the useful links.

Rafiki, feel free to edit the silly.

Self-deprecating remarks are a cultural disability of being raised in some of the less civilized parts of the US. I still fall back into that mode occasionally, gentle rebuke accepted.

Advice from a novice

As one who hasn't played PBEM, but has played extensively from the Union vantage point, I'll offer some advice to get things rolling. Eastern Front: You look to have good control of Northern Virginia and Washington is secure. So it seems your not facing imminent disaster. In fact, taking Richmond wo...

Thanks Gray and Daxil for the replies. Gray - Yes I actually like the 30 div policy and I think reducing WS would make it harder and maybe more realistic for the South. The limits on divisions make it much more challenging and as I have found make the strategic choices in the South to either go for ...

Cavalry Corp and other questions

I've been playing AACW for about 2 months now and want to say thanks to all of the developers and players for the excellent posts, tips and guides. This game is excellent but its even better when you have such great resources to help get you up to speed. I have mostly played as the Union, slowly ste...
