There were many "All Out Assults" that were executed, but still failed. Poorly lead troops, troops that just ran out of gas and more. I would include: - the Union assult at First Bull Run. - the many Union assults at Second Bull Run. - the Rebel assult at Malvern Hill. - the Rebel assult at Peachtre...

Not directly related to AACW, but my ancestor during the AWI was a gentleman named Roger Sherman. He is my 6th great-grandfather, signed both the Declaration of Independence AND the Constitution for the state of Connecticut, one of only half a dozen that signed both. My daughter and I saw another do...

I have limited knowledge of specific ancestors from the ACW but one. My GG grandfather, Francis Redfern served in the 1st Michigan Cav., apparently a 90 day regiment. When his enlistment expired, he volunteered in the Navy! I am Federal, through and through. I have studied the ACW most of my life an...

And lets not forget "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". Another story that happened at the same time as the war and actually included it as part of the plot line. NOT very accurate, but fun anyway.

I beg to differ. Lincoln almost lost the election of 64. A significant southern victory could have tipped the scales. The was was not popular in the north and the war could have ended then. The south did not need to beat the North - just hold their own. But by the election of 64 the likelyhood of t...

The Lost Events Documents

I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. A week or so ago I was here in the forums and had found a couple of documents that listed both CSA and USA Events. I ran out of time and had to leave before finishing my browse. Could someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks...

"There he stands like a stone wall!"

Also, Jackson's men grew accustomed to his eccentricities and fast marches. After awhile, they also took great pride in being referred to as "foot cavalry". Jackson's men may have become used to his eccentricities, but quite often Jackson's forced marches went way beyond the capabilities of his tro...

If they are more expensive than the also good 12 pd, and don´t have a free upgarde then buying as much 12 pd as you can seems the best option :siffle: Boy, I'm just blabbin' away tonight...10lb Parrots were not improved historically. The union gets,'elite' brigades, the most famous being John Reynolds,'Iron Brigade' where Reynolds dies commanding them at Gettysburg holding the heights for the next day. The south gets a few too, although I contend there should be more, the most famous being the Stonewall Brigade. All these brigad...

well that all sounds good...but the problem is you can only use one brigade and its either cav or infantry from what i have seen so far....if this is the case you would need several generals to get them all under control....i was going to make some real world uses out of them if you could put them ...

Yeah I think some of the regimental commanders were just trying to copy off of the French with the rediculous Zouave uniforms?? Like Jabber said, only thing those bright uni's were good for was for givin' the enemy somethin' easy to shoot at. It is important to note that the uniforms of BOTH sides ...

well what i can say is that at the start of the war west virginia was technicaly virginia until lincoln made it its own state because most people there were loyal to the union. I returned from a trip to WV in May with some new insights! The town of Beverly - home of the Rich Mountain Battlefield - ...
