Is WON multiplayer PBEM working OK?

WON hasn't been patched in a while. Is multiplayer PBEM stable and relatively glitch-free? I am thinking of getting some family members to try it, but I don't want to go to the effort if there are issues with crashes, bugs and glitches. Welcome hearing thoughts on the state of the game as of July 20...

Re: When can we expect new patch?

Anyway, decided to ask the question on this thread again, since WSS is such a great game but would benefit from some patch fixes/updates. Is any further work planned by AGEOD/Slitherine? It would be great to know, if only to know if one should stop asking. :)

Re: Grand Alliance PBEM strategy guide thread

That is great you were able to finish 4 PBEM...did you have any problems? I started two PBEM but both were halted due to disappearing armies in North Africa and Britain plus issue with England-Scotland unification card. On strategy, look forward to your guide. My sense is that the Rhine area is key ...

Re: When can we expect new patch?

The main issue I have seen, and I have reported it, concerns disappearing armies and disappearing reinforcements when you place them. I also had a duplicate Savoy army/leader appear when they changed sides per event. An opponent's Spanish army when it went to an African province to quash rebels and ...

Re: How did the game do?

I've always thought there was tremendous potential for AGEOD to build recognition and customer loyalty by updating/patching more regularly, as well as doing second editions, like Civil War II (which is one of the best in terms of quality). Other games like Espana 36 and Russian Civil War are diamond...

Re: Act of Union Broken?

Alas, I am finding this game to be sadly bug-ridden. Aside from the above-described game-ending bug, in subsequent PBEM and solo games, all on Grand Alliance campaign: - my Bourbon opponent in PBEM decided to quit when one of his Spanish armies, sent to quash a rebellion in Africa, simply disappeare...

Act of Union Broken?

I am in a PBEM in the Western campaign as Grand Alliance using the latest version. I spent 500 EP to activate the Union of Ireland, Scotland and England into a new United Kingdom. The attraction of this is that the tool tip advertises the union will increase pro-Grand Alliance loyalty to 100 percent...

Magazines, Supply Wagons and Garrison troops

Some questions: 1. When you buy garrison troops, they appear locked and cannot move, which defeats the notion you can supply newly conquered enemy fortress towns with garrison troops. Does this mean you have to use regular troops for garrison conquered enemy fortresses/cities? 2. Supply wagons are u...

WOS Thoughts

I am into a couple of PBEM but just wanted to offer some observations on WOS. First, this is a great game and great design - one of AGEOD's best IMO. They have a supply and reinforcement system that forces players to discard their preconceptions and truly grasp why the Wars of the early Age of Reaso...

Re: WoN current state

I will suggest to both of you to enjoy pbem multiplayer gaming. There are other Napoleon games for AI play which are great, but this one, like the classic game Diplomacy, requires live opponents. I think there is an audience for that, but it is a hard core niche of a niche. Aside from the practical...

Re: Naval Interception

Yes that seems to work. Change fleet to some form of offense. De-select. Then select again and you can choose naval interception. BTW - has anyone figured out yet how the Spanish Treasure Fleet works? I understand in history the Anglo-Dutch actually intercepted it. But the manual says little and in ...

Naval Interception

I am in a PBEM of WoS Grand Alliance v Bourbons campaign. I have noticed that, even though my British and Dutch battle fleets are in command, the naval interception order remains grey and cannot be chosen. The tool tip says you need a combat unit, but the stacks are full of battle squadrons. Is nava...

Re: WoN current state

From personal experience gained while testing some aspects of the game, if you run "too many" turns, one after the other, without shutting down the game, you can experience crashes caused by what I think is data corruption. I suggest, after each execution of a turn, quit the game, start t...

Re: WoN current state

In my opinion, WoN can be revived if they remodel the campaign scenario for two players, along the lines of WoS. This can be done as a DLC, so that people who want the larger multiplayer experience can still have that. However AGEOD has said in the past a two-player version it would be a lot of work...

Re: Now that WOS is Out...How About WON as 2-Player?

That's the main change I'd like to see, a revised diplomacy system with more scripted outcomes based on player choices. It makes no sense to have all these tiny duchies and tribal groups running around engaged in dubious activities more appropriate to renaissance or medieval era. Yes, you can play c...

Now that WOS is Out...How About WON as 2-Player?

Now that WOS is out, it would be great if AGEOD would consider a revision of the WON game to make it a two-sided version like WOS. While in theory the current six player multiplayer sounds great, it is often very difficult in practice to sustain a game with committed players (especially if you have ...

Re: Too Many Leader deaths? Or working as designed.

Just curiously, is there a mechanic in AGEOD games where replacement leaders will start appearing if there have been a certain number of leader losses? In some games the number of leaders is not very great to begin with, and if you lose 5-6 or more, it makes a real difference. In reality, new people...

A little off-topic but related. Re: How great was the southern qualitative advantage over the north?

As noted, the south may have initially had an advantage due to the larger percentage of West Point graduates in their ranks and the strength of the militia tradition across the south. But it is worth remembering that at this time, even in the north, most of the population lived off the land. America...

Re: Wars of Napoleon New Scenarios?

My guess is they are busy trying to finish Wars of Succession. WON also has some conceptual issues that arguably need resolving before new scenarios are developed. Namely, the idea of having all the minor countries and tribal confederations run by their own AI just doesn't work well, either in terms...

Re: Ageod teams up with the Sealed Knot Society for the English Civil War!

That is great news. AGEOD should continue arrangements like this in the future for its games. I think they did something similar with CW2. There are a lot of historical societies, educational foundations, etc. that would love the idea of these games as teaching tools. This could address some funding...

I think the best way to address balance issues is by adjusting the VP. I think CW2 is like Matrix WIP - the Japanese and CSA best shot is early on.

Re: Does RUS actually work well enough for new players?

I would say the game is an excellent tool for teaching new players about history. I play RUS more than any other AGEOD game just because of how fascinating the topic is and the tremendous flexibility of the game itself. Both sides, White and Red, have distinct strengths and weaknesses. Each side has...

Re: Historical Trends in this game are too rigid

I'll add my own two cents to this, which is that AGEOD erred, as it admits, in departing from the tried and true 2-sided campaign approach it took in ROP and EAW. Using scripts, you can retain interesting choices even within the historical framework. There were a number of points in the real history...

Just a comment on English Civil War design. I hope some consideration is given to NM balancing mechanics like ROP and RUS have. TYW and ESP don't have these, so they remain vulnerable to the "NM death spiral" effect.
