It would be nice if the individual elements of a homogeneous unit were represented by a variety of different graphics, not linked to experience. One might make 40% of the elements spearmen, 40% swordmen and the remainder some kind of medium javelin equipped swordsmen (i.e. not enough to imply the 'u...

Unit Naming

I notice in this game new user built units are named in the format n.'unit type' , such as "1. Phalanx", rather than "1st Phalanx". This reminds me of the 'bug' in WiA where, particularly as the French, you would could build a ridiculously big army by training your 3-4 free militia to provincials an...

Thanks for the reference (here's a working link for anyone else whose interested) http://www.scribd.com/doc/77028781/The-Bithynian-Army-in-the-Hellenistic-Period It seems to me that "Pedite" is already used to describe many faction's second-rate heavy infantry and would therefore be applicable in th...

a.) cant tell you much about the graphics itself, only the artist can. the kopís / κοπίς was a secondary weapon after -400, so even before Rome started to use the short sword as primary weapon. the pontic form of the Spathae-swords was used even until the 12th century. i th...

Okay, next question: After capturing Nicomedia my recruitment bar shows two new Pontic Hoplite units types and one Peltast type. Why can't i build these anywhere on the map? I'm sure this happenned to me in another game as Pontus, and as the Romans in another scenario - is this a know bug? Secondly,...

Reformed Pontic Heavy Infanty Display Bug

I've noticed twice now a bug with the Pontic 'imitation legion' element's display picture. A few days ago, when i first played the scenario, the elements picture was a composite of the pontic chariot, some hellenistic sword/shield equiped pedite (the word sounds normal now, why isn't it used more of...

What's the most effective Division make up?

What are other people finding works best to make up a division? Are many small divisions better than a few large ones? In AACW the ideal structure for an Infantry Division was commonly thought to be 11 Infantry, 4 Artillery, 1 Cavalry and a Sharp Shooter unit. This maxed out the 17 available slots. ...

Not a bug. It's been this way since they eliminated Divisional HQ units a few years back and PBEM players like the feature since it helps them with intelligence deception. It seems as if you cannot enable army command if a three star general's stack contains locked units. This is apparent at the star of the Finnish Civil War scenario if you merge the 3 star General with the locked Baltflot stack of Sailors. Also in this scenario, 2 Star General "Comrade A. Taimi" is n...

Finnish Civil War Winnable as the Reds?

Has anyone managed to win the Finnish Civil War scenario as the Reds? If so, how? The best i seem to be able to do is hold on to the two main Finnish strategic cities and therefore prevent them from winning. This earns me a "stalemate". I suppose I could combine all my troops into one army, in Helsi...

@ Devs Can you confirm the tool tip issue i report as a bug? Fundamentally, this engine hides too much beautiful artwork. A thread praising an AGEOD release? ;) Were many people given the choice of new extra's, such as limited airwarfare, or refinement of existing game features i think many would go for the later. If you think you can complete a scenario in an evening, Have at it. Last ones I did took about 3 months and those were alterations of pre-existing campaign scenarios (re: the AACW w/KY add-on scenarios). There are plenty of BOA/WIA scenarios playable in an evening. Some of the smaller campaigns in ...

If AGEODs products were aimed at Grognards only there'd be no need for a big graphical budget. Tells me that its not just Grogs that buy these games. I bet you loose a significant number of potential customers when they realise the complexity and micromanagement in these games - look at the number o...

- perhaps - there could be an option in the main menu, 'unified' replacements or something. Of course this would make the game unrealistically easy. I recommend playing either BOA or WIA (preferably the later as it includes many of the features introduced in AACW like distant unload, ROE) because the campaigns are a lot more manageable and the unit count is much smaller. You might play most of the French and Indian War Grand Campaign in one even...

Why not have a general infantry replacement element you can order as a replacement that can be used by any infantry unit understrength. Ditto for Cav, Arty, Navy and Support. Sending a force ahead on passive wont win you any military control. Moving on passive will mean if your intruder units does get enga...

Yeah, but the Army you knew was bankrupted by a half a Century of trying to keep in an arm race with an alliance of the most industrially advance nations on Earth - not a pre-mechanisation era 1920's army equipped with bolt action rifles.

The comparrison is not worthy.

I tend to use single element Cav units as scouts, set on passive and "avoid combat". A units combat value will lower when it moves, due to cohesion loss. Make the enemy come to you, accross an obstacle and he's yours. Alternatively, if he's not willing to move, use a small force to interdict his supply line or raze a depot to break his supply chain and wait for him to starve. A forc...
