Increase divisions for Confederacy

This has been discussed previously on another string someplace. The bottom line after research, the 30 division limit for the south causes numerous problems when defending. I am constantly deleting divisions on one side of map and paying the cost to reform division on the other side. Secondly it is ...

You have to keep in mind though that the average manpower of a historical CSA division was considerably less than 5000 men on the average, but the game has divisions that can have up to 18 elements which allowing for a few artillery units have an average manpower size of 10,000 to 12,000 men when f...

Do they need to be in command of a force? ie do you have to pay division leadership cost and put them in command of a small division in order for the recruitment to take effect?

Why did the South not do better?

1. Jefferson Davis' orders were followed. 2. Joe Johnston's strategies and orders were not followed. 3. Robert E. Lee was too much of a gambler. Three of Jefferson Davis' major blunders which precluded foreign intervention and led to the defeat of George McClellan in the '64 election. 1. He ordered ...

The attack at Peachtree by John Bell Hood

was based on Joe Johnston's plan. Why did the South lose the war? BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT WIN THE WAR!!! :niark: Unless: 1. War weariness occurred and a Democrat was elected to surrender to the enemy (sound familiar?). This was precluded by the victory in Atlanta which derailed George McClellan's cha...

The Manpower generation is an issue

and does in fact impact the divisional numbers problem. However, to get back to the original post about their being to few divisions in game......and in fact there are too few divisions from an historical perspective as well. Please see the following: In the summer of 1863 this is the divisional bre...

Seriously

i agree, it is a pain not knowing where they will show up...especially for the South.

Is there a logical reason why we cant determine where these new troopers will be trained?

I would actually lobby for a change in Joe Johnston's ratings. I believe a 5-1-6 or a 4-2-6 is more appropriate. His defensive skills were at least the equal of Lee's. He gave up similar amount of territory in the Atlanta campaign to Sherman as Lee gave up to Grant in the Overland campaign. Both cam...

Rosecrans had the good fortune of facing Braxton Bragg in the 1862 Tennessee campaigns. Win lose or draw Bragg tended to retreat after a battle. If Rosecrans had faced off against Joe Johnston he would have had his derriere handed to him at Stones River. Joe Johnston's rating of 4-2-4 should be more...

Gardner and Pemberton are putzes

This research made me remember how bad these 2 generals were. By bottling themselves up in Port Hudson and Vicksburg they threw away ~35K troops and prevented Joe Johnston from the opportunity take his rightful place as the greatest general in the Confederacy :niark:

I had some time to do a little research on the actual divisions counts during the Civil War. It looks like the Order of Battle for the AoNV was typically in the 7 to 11 division range: Gettysburg = 9 Infantry + 1 cav McClaws, Pickett, Hood, Early, Johnson, Rodes, Anderson, Heth, Pender + Stuart Wild...

As a fellow historical grognard, I agree with you that in absolute historical terms the divisional cap is not arbitrary. The issue is the game does not generate "real world" historical manpower levels. The current game system yields significantly more manpower than was historically the case. As such...

It is Spring of 1863 in one of my pbem games. I have 30 divisions as CSA..one has 2 or 3 elements. about 4 or 5 are at 9-12 elements, the other 25 or so are at full complement of 18 elements. I have zero inflation so have not been maxing conscription out with $$. I am playing against an aggressive U...

Great idea from Brochgale!!

"More divisions - drool!!!! I could have one Army to invade Mexico. Another Army to invade Canada. 2 Armies just to play about with the Feds. Might even give Jackson an Army. A Confederate Empire then I could attack the Brits/French whilst I am about it?" This is a simple matter of a complete map of...

30 division limit

I agree the 30 division limit is a problem for the south.....a HUGE problem!! However, as previously stated if the conscription companies are made available in the current game then the ability to convert these into divisions should be in place as well. This is an historical simulation and if the no...

AACW 1.09e game

I am interested in playing an April 61 game with someone. I could average about 1 turn per day with weekends more active than weekdays. Would be willing to play either side and upgrade to new version once it becomes official.

Another scenario option

In 280 BC Pyrrhus invaded the boot of Italy with an army of Greeks to assist the Tarentines. This is a simple campaign...which might fit your purposes. However, it introduced the Romans to the War Elephant at Heraclea where the Roman army under Laevinius was defeated with heavy losses to Pyrrhus' ar...

Excellent. Any ideas on break down of cohesiveness based on terrain? Sword/shieldmen were much better in rough terrain for example than phalangist/spearmen. There were also different frontages for spearmen, swordsmen etc. so maybe the 18 elements could reflect that in some manner? I know im late to ...

AACW novice looking for pbem game

Hello, I have not done a pbem game before but would like to try either side in an april 1861 campaign. I have played games on internet (Everquest, EQ2, Vanguard, Star Wars Galaxy, Hearts of Iron and Europa Universalis) but have not done pbem. I can do two or three turns per week minimum (probably mo...
