Well, I have used several single units/elements of cavalry, spread over adjoining regions, to destroy large rail networks behind enemy lines. Just be sure you keep an eye on their supply, and the movement of interdicting forces.

It does seem there maybe was an underlying competition there, of who had the best looking beard. I guess it was just the fashion of the period though.

I agree about Tom Berenger's beard, but also his hair in the Gettysberg film. He did look like a Lion with all that hair, looked like a main :mdr:

I am using the latest patch, and there are sometimes some odd battles. One example recently was where 1 element v 1 element had the battle screen come up 3 times, and both sides lost 0 men. I think on the whole though, its not a major problem, just the odd isolated incident.

Well I have promoted Generals that were Core leaders, and didnt need to disabnd the Core to promote a 2* General to a higher rank. To promote a general inside a Core, You only have to remove(drag and drop) that General form the core(and any units he command doesnt matter eg a Division) to a indenped...

I am playing on Hard difficulty, and managing to beat the USA AI as CSA more comfortabley now. Defending is easier as the CSA, as its the USA that have to be offensive. I'm in mid 1863 a...

Battle screen translation

When a battle is underway, that picture automaticaly pops up, with the CSA flag on the left & the USA flag on the right, with a half circle that changes colour from green/red during battle to one side to the other. green = CSA Red = USA But what does that domination mean when it goes to one side(gre...

Great screen from Prima to make life easier. Looking at that picture you can see some orders in colums on that panel. Then look across at the top of the panel, you have an Arrow(movement orders) Tent/HQ(create, dismiss Armies/divisions/corps/promotions etc) and finally the Sword(Ambush/destroy depot...

Playing as CSA, and recently having my eyes opend to cannons. I now use the 12pdr cannons as the staple of my artillery. Reason being, is that 9/10 times I am defending, and the defensive benefit of the 12pdr is too good to pass over. Especially at the price compared to the more expensive guns.

Once you have learned the basics of the game. Playing the Normal setting is a piece of cake, and no challange really, as they let you build your froces up pretty much, and wait for you to attack most cases. I play on the Hard setting now, and the first time i played it on that level, i lost my first...

Rafiki is correct. "Resume game" is used if you are playing the game, and you exit to the main menu to change settings etc during a game. To load a game you were playing after closing and booting up AGEOD's ACW, you use "Load Game".

Crashes happen to me too. But the game saves itself when you hit the next turn button. I would reccomend making a backup save every 10 turns or so too, by pressing CTRL+ left click on the save button and you can make a backup file.

On the CSA side, I think I am correct in thinking, you can check yourself. That on the unit picture alone, the gold/bronze coloured guns are usally light guns. And the Silver/grey coloured guns are the medium Field artillery.

I think if you leave units in a terrirotry in general (one of the squares of the map) that area will very slowly convert to your side. there are some Generals that give % bonuses to increase this affect to get the people on your side in regions that are not on your side in new acquired territories.

Pretty much just the Hard difficulty setting, and giving the AI more time to make their moves. I captured San Francisco playing against AI on Normal setting, and it was quite difficult. Playing on Hard now, as its more of a challange, and cant get near it, as there is a huge Union army in the area that usally probes Housten killing my small units, then dissapears back North thankfully.

I wouldnt use Texas Ragers or Indians as assault groups, or rely on them in a battle. they are small units, and are best set to avoid combat. I usally use them to just ride around and soft cap cities from the Union, or as above, use them to destroy enemy rail lines in key positions.

Having the luxury to train them to Line infatry from Militia is well worth it, and time well spent. If I throw them in as only militia, they are always the units that get eliminated in a battle.
