I used to receive this magazine in French. I think I was their only US subscriber, or at least, one of the very very few. A French PBEM gamer sent me a copy of issue #1 as a gift, and I liked it so well I became a regular. I thought it had ceased independent publication and become a column in Vae Vi...

Most regiments, depleted or not, will use 2 supply/turn. Add a little to compensate for weather. So that would mean that a force of four regiments slightly strains a town with a supply level of 8, at least in winter? If that's so, I'm definitely going to have to scatter my people some. Can't be hel...

You have made a sound analysis :cwboy: :sourcil: Thank you! The question I'm still pondering is: On supply: I read the rules but I'd like to try and reduce this to a straightforward rule of thumb. Say you want an army of four depleted regiments to rest (passive mode), recuperate, absorb replacement...

Okay, I decided that one of the best ways to learn to play the Colonials was to play as the British, because then I could learn what annoys the British most. The heart and soul of maintaining initiative is to find a way to 'be the problem.' On supply: I read the rules but I'd like to try and reduce ...

Most of these names are assigned in the 'setup' spreadsheets. If there at start, on the setup tab [and then you get to learn how to compile a new scenario using csv splitter and the game editor :siffle: ] If they 'arrive' later, they're in the 'reinforcements' tab. [Yet another thing to learn when ...

In order for us to get these into WIA [BoA2], can you upload the .xls file here? It would help if you highlighted the cells with changes [now he tells him :siffle: ] so they are easy to find. :sourcil: I can definitely upload the .xls here so it can help with BoA2. I can't highlight the cells with ...

Okay. I have finished the basic spelling fixes for LocalStrings_BOA42.xls. I used the following guidelines: 1) Stay out of column A. In practice, this meant no global search and replace was feasible. (Global search, yes, but they had to be fixed manually to avoid breaking column A.) 2) Fix only obvi...

2) OK. Remember that spelling didn't even begin to be standardized until Webster wrote his book. And names? In the US an immigrant family could end up with several spellings depending on which agent interviewed them at Ellis Island!!!! :niark: Yeah, that includes my own family. Dutch Kuykendalls be...

Okay, wading through this, just editing the description column B. (I've worked on modding before, so I know not to just randomly screw with things.) Preliminary observations: 1) This can be handled at two levels of editing. One can either just correct the most blatant errors (the stuff that sounds l...

Wouldn't it be better for the community if these errors were fixed permanently, i.e. by the designers? :innocent: I thought they had issued the last patch they planned to issue, so that was a dead issue. I'd be happy to fix spelling errors so they could include them in a patch if that's what the de...

I would just like to be able to fix those spelling errors in the game that are fixable (those not frozen by presence as part of a game graphic). I am thinking of leader names, unit names and city names. Can anyone tell me which files govern these names, and whether I may safely fix spelling errors i...

I think I did worse than expected. It's October 1776. I'm losing everywhere but the South Central, and the only reason I'm not losing there is that the British haven't bothered to operate there much yet. I'm run out of Stanwix and I don't see how I can possibly hold Ticonderoga and Albany. They can ...

Badly beating up all of the 1775 British forces is about the best you can expect to do. I'm guessing that in Boston you've only seen about 1/3-1/4 of the reinforcements that will be coming in 1776. Keep those levies coming because you're going to need them. I think you're doing very well. Okay. Bas...

1775-1783 campaign: what's considered good?

Okay, Independence Day has arrived. Woohoo, We The People... Status: Canada: we didn't do that, eh. If we need any poutine wagons we will consider it. New England: what remains of the first and second British forces (about eight variously depleted regiments) is falling back from Springfield/Hartford...

Generally that's right. But don't put too much weight on these things - usually your militia are better off running around with the army than getting creamed by the British army. Just keep the militia roughly near their home state, and see if you can't slip them in to a strategic town in December. ...

Another key point in managing your armies. Basically this comes down to two points Disbands Ensure that at the end of December you can put a lot of militia units into garrison in strategic towns in their home states. That stops them from disbanding. Everyone else should be stacked with a charismati...

Llega el tercio de caballeria! Thanks, arsan. That's a definite help. At this point the best way to develop further questions is to take what I know and go make some mistakes in actual gameplay. It does seem to me that the vast pile of Colonial leaders you have in New England in 1775 needs to spread...

Just bought BOA and have patched it current. I have a significant background in board and computer wargaming, including the old AH 1776, so I at least understand what I ought to be trying to do. Most of my questions are mechanical in nature. I have read the documentation, the FAQ and browsed the for...
