And while we're at it, how about -1 NM when the RGD fails? So pay $8. Success: get 8 WS Fail: -1 NM (your guy gets busted) Edit: Agree with Pocus on too much WS being in the game. As the CSA it is only really a problem in the first few months, after that I am swimming in the stuff. Would it not make...

One more thing I noticed (finished 2nd game a week ago): The NM penalty when you are very far ahead seems rather harsh, as CSA I was being hit for -7 in one turn at some point.

Ok, runners now correctly replacing elements. This is good. What replacement type are my River Transports supposed to draw replacements from and do they need to be in a city with Depot / Harbor type XYZ? I've managed to replace one River Transport element, but do not seem to be able to reproduce.

Obviously your Hide value is not high enough. Redeploy to somewhere else (ideally with lower frontage) and your Combat Readiness / Organization will increase. Not that uncommon in ACW I as the AI loved to amphib assault heavily fortified positions (leading to the assaulting forces being wiped out to the last man), but have not seen this happen too much in II. It would be nice if the AI would figure out that attacking fortified positions over rivers is a b...

Regarding the leaderless stacks not receiving this penalty. Why not impose it on them as well, but give the stack a strategic rating of 0, thus making it much more likely that the local Colonel or whatever will stay put and not move? This would even encourage sending out your lesser gods of Generals...

What might help (if you can do this), is: 1) Obviously grab Jeff City and Rolla for retreat and supply. 2) Create an all-cavalry division (with perhaps 3 Horse Art.) under good Cavalry Generals. One to lead, one to be head of the division. Do not attach a supply unit. Ideal for sweeping the smaller ...

Bring more troops and go for the assault. 200 power is very doable and will most likely get you a few NM points.

I always go for Alexandria the moment it becomes unguarded, easy NM points and ideal for digging in and shootin' some Yankees as they try to go over the river. Also disrupts supplies to any Union stack that is trying to move into Virginia. As for CSS Virginia, I have never found any use for the Iron...

Most Industrial structures generate 1 or 2 money per turn in addition to their WS, general supply, and or ammo production. There is nothing wrong with runners, so long as they are not being sunk at a quick rate. Unfortunately they do seem prone to that. Industrialization is more stable so long as y...

Ok, I am going to be the lone dissenter here and advise Runners, as they can also generate cold hard (well, CSA dollars, so not that hard) cash. Semmes and the Alabama remain locked

Hi, Just scored my first victory against the Yankee Invader (who is a lot more timid then before), but when Semmes shows up with the Alabama, they remained locked (redbrown stripe) until mid 1863 (when I won). I take it this is not supposed to happen. I merged them with my Raiding Fleet in the box w...

In my experience, it works like this: Outside a fort is outside a fort. They can develop entrenchments but just sitting there is not the same. Those in a fort only come out when you have the sally button pushed. The same as for towns. Otherwise they are only vulnerable to assault. Those placed outs...

Forts are a matter of taste. Forts can bombard ships (using the dreaded DAR - Double Adjacency Rule - ships must move between 2 river/sea regions that border your land area, or 2 sides of your land area. This is why the pre-built forts are all diamond shaped. They also help a smaller force hold out...

Not sure if they are in the manual (as we all know, reading the manual is for suckers), but look around the forums, there should be a few threads which have all the shortcuts in them. no I haven't but that is the kind of short cut I was looking for!! Don't forget you can (top of my head) cycle naval units with T (and backwards with Y) and locked units with Q (where you can find locked stacks, which may contain unlocked units in them). Basically QWERTY cycles, so there you go. No...
