1880 force level question

Gents,
I am playing Austria in a team game of the 1880 scenario. What is a good guide for limiting how many corps I build? The amount I can build is quite high but I am not sure if I am building more than I can supply (I am enlarging my depots) etc.
Thanks

How to run away?

My opponent asked me this and I am not sure of the answer: "e been trying to retreat both Grant and McClellan across the Ohio for several turns now and nothing. No naval forces blocking the way so I don't know why they won't go." I am an ageod veteran but new to CWII and my opponent is fairly new to...

Drake, We are in agreement. You said "If the player of the French does not have this happen and still has his veteran army I don't see why the troops would have to be degraded any more than anyone else." and that is exactly what I meant. They should start decent and from there the player determines ...

One issue with the French Generals and Marshals is that they did not exist within a modern military hierarchy. By 1805, the French Army had permanent brigades, divisions, and corps, with the associated staffs and the cohesion of working together. At least until 1812, the other armies were organized ...

I like the outline of what James Burns suggests but I think it might go a little too far. The Russians were not nearly as conservative with their guard, nor were the Prussians (whose Guard was smaller than the Russians and what Napoleon eventually fielded). The Austrians did not have a guard but wou...

Interesting. I have used it twice in the beta patch and it worked. I am not sure if they locked but they did lose cohesion. It only works on Russians in East Prussia, FYI.

Crash with beta patch

Pocus, I am getting a crash that seems to get worse. It started crashing as I was playing my turn randomly (so I was saving every 30 seconds), then it started crashing whenever I hit F2. Now it crashes as soon as I load the scenario from the Load menu. I have attached the files. It is a PBEM and I a...

Replacing Falkenhayn

I have a question about changing GHQ Commanders after the start of 1915. How do I do it, under what circumstances should I do it, and who best to take over the Western Front, the Austrian Front, and, if I can transfer Hindenberg, the East Frony (OHL?)

Thanks,

Related Question, I am playing as the Eastern Entante and it is late october (and again early november) 1914. I have detached Brusilov from Army command with the intention of making him a GHQ. I am not able to. He is in Czernowitz. Am I missing a rule that allows for *** Generals to form a GHQ? Thanks

For the East Front I got a lot out of Norman Stone's Eastern Front 1914-1917. Covering such a broad topic it is necessarily lacking in campaign and battle detail but is an excellent overview, especially of the strategic issues and political problems of the major powers. He gives a really good look a...

Hello AGEOD. I bought the game when it came out and downloaded it on my laptop. I want to take it off the laptop and use it on my desktop with my big new monitor, but the file it too big to burn on a cd. Any suggestions? Should I try a DVD? Can I download the game again? I am very tech illiterate. t...

Right, but I am wondering specifically about Meade. He kept his high initiative rating when I promoted him but I think, I am not sure, that with some of the leaders when given army command some things may change. What about Meade?

Meade as Army commander?

He is one of the best Union corps commanders. Do his ratings go down when assigned an army (they did not go down when I promoted him to 3 stars)

well, I have only PBEM a few times (twice) as the Union. But I do not sit back and wait. Constant pressure, even if it is a feint, is worth it to keep the rebs spread out so it is harder for them to dig in big armies. Also, both times, I have used an attack down the Peninsula, the Valley, Norfolk an...

Siege Question

Hello everyone! I have a question. So I am playing as the confederates. Lets say the Yanks take Mobile and leave a large, 1200-1500 strength stack outside the structure. Over a few turns they build up several levels of entrenchments. I have a superior force ready to attack but do not think I can be ...

Big Ideas, I will take your challenge. I have played 2 PBEM games before, one as each side and am playing the Rebs in one now. The only rule change I would request would be 3 redeployments instead of 1. I am normally good for 5-9 turns a week. It is best for the Rebs to host to get a better view of ...

I disagree a little. I cannot use my "get dir of Mac" trick until 63 usually, as better leaders are not around to make it possible. But it is actually historical. It is pointed out in this thread that Mac lost most of his troops while retaining his army after the 7 Days and if you look at the west, ...

My last opponent put Little Mac in charge of an amphibious attack. He made a mistake (I think it was a mistake, he had done no recon) and attacked the port where my reserves where. I knocked out 800 points of exhausted inf and captured Little Mac. Problem solved for both of us! I prefer the give ano...

Dierk, you may be forced to fight the first 18 months or so with McClellan and McDowell, but later you get LOTS (10 at least total ) Army headquarters. So you can create a new amry with Meade or Grant and Send Little Mac to Indian Territory with his army headquarters! Take a look at the 1862 scenari...

Ride with the Devil is much better than I expected. Come on, it has Jewel, Jesus, and SPIDER MAN! But seriously, it was a good flick. I would like to see a 1864 Grant takes command movie.
