i guess you would figure the "powers that be" would call of the invasion after the first 10,000 casualties. maybe this needs to be worked into the games code or something. Agreed on something along these lines - despite the fact that I/we are the commander and say that we want them to attack 'at al...

This is a difficult one to answer really: Gettysburg could be seen as a situation that saw an escalation from a probe to a pitched battle to a combined hold at all costs vs an all out attack - if you like a step through the various levels of battle commitment on the game settings. The mentality of t...

No problem - glad to help :) .

Be glad to hear of any feedback - Lee was also doing a strange wander around to Baltimore where he lost a lot of men too as far as I could tell. Wondered if that had influenced the AI of a need to act elsewhere (not sure how the AI addresses cross-theatre issues).

Over Aggressive AI?

Hi folks, Just had a confederate (AI) army launch a relentless and ultimately suicidal attack on some of my forces. Settings - fow on, hard ai, use all behaviours, low detect bonus and normal aggression. Latest patch. I had 3 divisions at Brunswick in Georgia and van Dorn sat next to me with a large...

Reading this thread with interest ... never played against a human and tend to restart before things get too far. However, I'm curious as to how replacements would have been handled historically? I presume there was never a central pool and things were handled by theatre/army or something and just l...

Just a quick comment from me to further support the continued work on these games after release. One of the most frustrating things I find in 'the games industry' is titles being released in a half finished manner that never get fixed properly - usually this is the more commercial titles (Total War ...

May not be the case but aren't there a few examples - the Iron Brigade is one I think has this issue (haven't played for a while) - in that it appears and is named as such in the messge but doesn't actually have that label on the unit itself? I'm sure i've noticed a few such things where the unit ap...

Using artillery

Hi, Was just reading captainmatt's excellent AAR and noticed something that i've picked up on a bit in my own games. That is, at what point does the number of artillery batteries/pieces become unmanageable and unusable during the battle mechanics? For example in the AAR McClellan repeatedly had mass...

Stack entrenchment values

Hi, Was just curious as to the reasoning behind stack entrenchment values when merging/unmerging with another stack while in the same region. Ie. I can have a stack with level 4 entrenchment that I drag onto a newly arrived stack and all entrenchment is lost. Why is that? Firstly it is daft if you d...

I recently posted some similar thoughts as the OPs on the apparent randomness of battle results. While the example here is rather extreme and the result seems totally fair I do have a few questions: Does the engine make allowances for concentrated attacks on heavy fortifications - ie. in the case he...

Well at least it isn't just me being paranoid and there are others getting confused/frustrated :sourcil: The NM stuff is a difficult one, and for me it isn't so much what reason the game hands points out for (as that is very debatable) its more the apparent randomness of the awards themselves. If it...

Good game but some frustrations

Hi, Well i've played quite a lot of the game on various patches and generally am enjoying it a lot. However I have some frustrations that have arisen over time and would like to vent: 1) The 'raiding' activity behind enemy lines is to be frank tedious ... while I can appreciate it adds some realism ...

Just reading through this - seems to me that the idea of the 'blockade box' is better than assigning individual vessels (to me anyway) to blocking river sections but as said would also require a major graphics change that won't happen. So ... how about having a tab similar to the economics map in th...

The raising troops issue is one that has caused some frustration for me - particularly annoying when a brigade you recruit pops up in the city nearest to the frontlines and then that city gets attacked, hitting your half formed and low cohesion unit. Also with ships - should the 'random' location of...

Well speaking from my pretty limited experience it's hard to go wrong as the Union economically versus the AI from what I saw. My first Union full campaign I took the low-end economic options as I wanted to see how the game developed (although the AI goes all out for everything it can get I think). ...

Info on enemy units

Hi, Just curious what factors influence the accuracy of information given when the cursor is held over an enemy unit? I had a case where I just got a report of 1 division and 2 lots of USMC reported, and the force was actually 17000 strong or similar - this was while it was in my own (its enemy) ter...

Not intending to raise hackles/controversy but Just thought i'd add a point or two to this - a modern definition of strategy is perhaps the link between the military and the political - how you use force to achieve your aims in war. As such it could be argued that labelling the 'attribute' strategy ...

Actually i'll second that idea - again being a Brit makes it rather tough work. I especially have problems as I sometimes get mixed up over city names and region names and have to very carefully look at whats what. A search box for regions - such as those in paradox games - would perhaps be useful?
