Re: ---> Field of Glory: Kingdoms announced <---

Pocus, I've gone back and played Empires a while to remind myself of how things work, and I have a couple of suggestions. For what they're worth: First, if you intend to keep the same system of bonuses to income and production for having trade goods in the same or neighboring regions, then I think t...

Re: ---> Field of Glory: Kingdoms announced <---

Don't get me wrong -- the economic system in Empires actually gave you a reason to think about where you chose to expand. It did a lot of things well. It's just that it takes a while to understand how to make best use of the resources available to you. Anything that can be done to make those decisio...

Re: ---> Field of Glory: Kingdoms announced <---

Heavens, what a treat to hear about this! I am especially interested in learning how you plan to evolve the economic system from Empires. The economics in that game were interesting and certainly far from trivial, but also clumsy to handle and kind of inscrutable, at least until one had played for q...

Re: Recent PhilThib interview

That was a great interview with Philippe Thibault, especially for what it had to say about the early history of some of Paradox's versions of EU and CK. I knew for example that Snowflake had the first go at creating Crusader Kings, but I hadn't known that Philippe also had a hand in it before them.

Sorry not to have checked in sooner. But now I can wish everyone a happy -- and most certainly a better -- New Year! I've been playing HOI4 with my long-running MP group, which uses a heavily modded version of the game to produce better historical verisimilitude. I've also gotten back into The Opera...

Re: KOREAN WAR

Pocus makes a good point here. In one of John Tiller's games, for example, you simply have a set of air assets in a country's stockpile that can be deployed to various regions, and assigned to missions in those regions. The turn resolution resolves any combats, assesses losses, and next turn you do ...

Re: Is this forum dead ?

Well, I find Pocus's statement quite encouraging! But I agree that if detailed treatment is what has best characterized the games he has designed up till now, then there's an implicit contradiction here.

Re: Is this forum dead ?

I have to say that I am most disappointed to hear that there likely won't be a successor to the Civil War game, or to Pride of Nations. Both were noteworthy accomplishments, and in the case of Civil War probably the best of its kind, ever. Still, if Field of Glory: Empires turns out to be the last p...

With AGEOD, Slitherine never announce much in advance the subject ... Sorry -- I couldn't resist this one. Pocus might better have said that with ANYONE Matrix/Slitherine don't give much away in advance. Grigsby's War in the East II is in beta, for heaven's sake, and they still haven't "offici...

Re: Problems with a PBEM Game

Oh, for sure. I played War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition for a number of years with a variety of people back in the day. That game took so long to play through that children could be born and graduate from high school before finishing! There was a lot of life to experience in games like that.

Well, "cumbersome" was the wrong word. But this is miles behind what other games use. You shouldn't have to manually transfer files anymore.

Hmm . . . that's a possibility. Worth a try.

Here's hoping that Civil War III has a less cumbersome PBEM system!

Re: Problems with a PBEM Game

Thank you for the suggestion. It had not occurred to me that the problem might be because my friend and I are using incompatible file structures. But I do not think that's the issue For my part, I have no doubt that the game is being stored in \documents\My Games\etc. The custom name I give to the P...

Problems with a PBEM Game

I love this game, but I have to say that I seem to be a magnet for strange experiences with it. I posted in another thread that I have never seen a report of a successful Habeas Corpus decision -- still haven't, by the way -- and now I have another mysterious problem. I recently tried starting a PBE...

Re: Does Habeas Corpus EVER Work?

Well, all I can say is that I have never seen it succeed, even in provinces where troops are stationed. And I'm not talking from only a few examples, believe me. I examine every message every turn, and nothing. But clearly I'm overlooking something.

Re: Does Habeas Corpus EVER Work?

It's worked for me. Not all the time, but I've seen it work. What was the sign of it working? Increased Union Loyalty? Or a message in the log saying that it worked? I ask because it occurs to me that perhaps a sign of it working is the absence of a message that it was unsuccessful in a particular ...

Does Habeas Corpus EVER Work?

I tried posting this first over in the Matrix forum, but putting it up here is likely to get a better response, I think. Anyway, I've been playing CWII pretty intensively the past month, and I find much to like in it. One small annoyance though, is the seemingly utter futility of playing Habeas Corp...

Re: Civil War III

I apologize because I haven't read most of this but if there was a Civil War III I'd highly appreciate a better way to multiplayer than PBEM. This one, at least, appears likely. Pocus posted earlier in this thread that any new game would use the Matrix/Slitherine PBEM++ system. That's a good way to...

Usually Paradox releases beta patches to registered users in the Tech Support forum; is it a policy that you won't be following this convention of theirs, or has that just not happened because Paradox is busy in LA this week? It's true that inflation currently is not working. It's a priority for the first patch. Your report about prospectors not being able to forage is a new one to me. It's worth keeping an eye on, although because they are classed as garden-variety military units and none of those need a specific "forag...

The prestige rewards depend crucially on how each side chooses to play the crisis. When France goes for a high stakes resolution and loses, S-P gets a lot of prestige.

Heavens, yes. If you manage to boot the French out of Tunisia by winning a crisis with them, as I have done once or twice, your prestige zooms up nicely.

There were some problems with the display when looking at a city with a large number of structures, as is the case with Torino.
How many display boxes do you see by default?
It might help to try changing the screen resolution in the game options. That's what solved the problem for me.
