Thanks Loki. I've been able to script a Russian/Ottoman peace, but I'm not sure what the faction tag is for he South African Republic. Where can I find it?

Ending third-party wars

Is there any way to force third party belligerents to the peace table? I've brought my British game up to 1900 and there are several foreign wars that simply will not end. Russia suddenly declared war on the Ottomans something like 10 game years ago, and quickly overran them, but on the war wages, t...

You're right. I experimented and it was that I had reached the tradepost limit. I wish the game would tell you that rather than saying you have 25 still available and you can't build because the structure isn't valid for the province.

I'll have to have another look at the stacking, because it seems either I'm accidentally selecting all the units at once or the computer's doing it for me. In the Cyprus campaign I referred to above I had four separate forces, and as far as I was aware I was doing exactly the same thing I always do ...

The sugar beet plantation card indicates it needs the traditional sugar resource, and when I select it the only places that show green are in the Caribbean. As long as both sugar cane and sugar beet use exactly the same kinds of resources, I can't see any justification for building the latter. I've ...

Scripting to Change Colonial Status

Can anyone help me with the scripting necessary to change colonial status? I have two problem areas. One, which is that Ampihny is for some reason French Non-National territory, is causing problems with the British protectorate of Madagascar. I can't build colonial structures in the zone so I cannot...

Can't build tradeposts

I seem to be having a problem over the last ten years or so of gameplay. From time to time the program won't let me build tradeposts. I have merchants in the necessary zones, and CP in them is 5% or more, but I simply can't build any tradepost on any region that meet the criteria. Then a few months ...

Sugar Beet Production

Can anyone tell me what the point of the Sugarbeet production facility is, which comes in around 1890? It seems to be more expensive but less productive than the older sugar plantations, and yet uses the same resource.

I'm not sure what was happening with my siege. I had one garrison and two non-garrison units, all separate. For the two non-garrison units I kept clicking the 'leave city' button in the top left hand corner, and physically dragging them out, but nada. After about 12 turns of this one of the units fi...

Suez/Sieges

Has anyone else had a problem where, dragging ships between European and Indian Ocean destinations, the game plots movement through the Suez canal but then wont let the ships through? I had one instance recently where a major army I had sent from England to fight in the Sudan spent a year off the Me...

The Canadian Plains trade area is landlocked (Hudson Bay isn't treated as sea, so you can't build a port on it). I've build a new collection centre outside the non-national trade area, but the overlays and trade box still show it as isolated. I wish these non-national regions were done colony by col...

Hi Kensai. The problem is that while the colony itself is a protectorate, the capital, Regina, is non-national territory. To turn Saskatchewan into a colony I need to play the card on the capital, but I go to play the card on Regina and it tells me the colonial penetration is not within the limits o...

Canadian Plains Trade Area

Can someone explain how to bring a trade area with maritime access into contact with the home market. I can't get the Canadian Plains connected to the British market. And on the topic of Canada, I want to change Saskatchewan from a protectorate into a colony. I can't play the relevant card on Regina...

I've been able to fit some time into playing the game, and more or less done the above. I shut down all my industry with the exception of coal, chemicals and the foods, and then began restarting new factories with a very careful eye on surpluses. At the moment I am producing a slight surplus of fish...

Thanks for the advice. I'll implement the changes you recommend and let you know how they go. It might be a couple of weeks before I can get back to it though - I've a pretty tight real life schedule coming up.

I appreciate that most people are busy, and if you don't have time to check my game I understand, but does anyone have any ideas of what may be happening. I can't understand how the F4 screen can say I am producing 243 units of tea and yet I'm only selling 12 on my domestic market, have no internati...

Where's my production going?

My apologies if this has been discussed before - I've tried to search the forum but couldn't find a similar thread. A few weeks ago I posted on the Paradox forums about issues I was having with meeting my population's demands. For the past five game years I have been placing maximum orders for every...

To a large extent I agree with you, but that doesn't remove the tension between the freedom given the player to modify history and some of the events. Domestic and economic events are fine, but when it comes to international expansion and colonial politics I think you have to take one of two paths. ...

Apart from the various economic ones, such as gold rushes, I'm not so sure I like events in this game. There is an inherent tension between events based on real history and the fact that in a game we embark on an alternative path the second we hit 'next turn' for the first time. At one point I recei...

Prussia pinching protectorates

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but I've found several times that the game engine seems to do some strange things with colonising. I'm playing Great Britain, and I've just reached 1885. About ten years ago I got a surprising message that I was building a governor's residence in Fij...
