Usually, I place other units only when the divisions get full. For example, if I have no room in my divisions, then I will place units in the Corps (they can then split off to garrison towns). Also, I store units in a Corps for future division creation (usually in the next turn). I like to put extr...

Almost all of my armies have balloons, hospitals, signals but I was wondering how often players put artillery and cavalry in their Corps.

Corps

Does anyone regularyly use "extra" units in their corps? When I say extra, what I mean is not formed as part of a division. I was thinking in terms of Rodmans or hospitals/engineers/balloons.

Sailors

Does anyone use them?

Would they be effective attached to a riverine naval force?

Thanks for the input. I guess if I wasn't so lazy I would have figured it out on my own. That's what I get when I am thinking about this game at work.

I always industrialize at least half of the Northern states. I re-started a game last night and starting selling war bonds for the first time. It made a difference. I was always afraid of giving up those VP's. I suppose that I was just getting a little impatient that I could not raise an army in the...

Sharpshooter Bonus

Do you need just one element of Sharpshooters per division to get the initiative bonus or do you need to recruit a brigade? I hope it is an element because I would rather recruit a brigade of (2) Inf, (1) SS than an entire brigade of SS.

Industrialization

Does anyone do it? If so how much? I always do it but I am not sure I see the benefits. I have loads of supplies but not much money. It seems that I barely have enough money each turn to buy 10 railroads, 5 river transports, a brigade for the western armies and a brigade for my eastern armies. At th...

Sorry no screenie. Thanks jabber. That pretty much answers my question. I guess that means I took quite a lickin' last night. McClellan's Army of Northern Virigina lost three divisions outside of Alexandria (Sumner, Whipple & Mansfield all injured).

Injured Generals

When a commander of a division gets injured, he sent to a nearby city to recover from his wounds. What happens to the brigades under his command? I very strongly believe that they do not get grouped in with another unit. It is a little hard to tell in the crowded Virginia theater but in Missouri, Ly...

Naming Units

Not sure if this has been mentioned but I would love to be able to name my "forces". Sometimes I do not like the name of the Army/Fleet that is given to my boys.

Attack with more men. I rarely have an amphibious attack with less than 8K men. Plus I am not so sure the Marines give you an advantage. I think their attribute gives a bonus for attacking across rivers!?!

Yeah, I just read last night about DuPont's attack on the Charlestown harbor ('62?). DuPont had a fleet of about 9 Monitors and attacked Ft. Sumter and Ft. Moultrie. Well, the attack did not do too much damage to the forts. The monitors got chewed up. No immediate sinkings however one of them did si...

Thanks, Rafiki. I knew this was going to be a good game when I saw you on the forums. I am still waiting for a game to come out to rival the depth, detail and addiction of Victoria. (Not to take anything away from this game)

Successful Blockade???

So if I understand this correctly, when I have a blockade of the Mississippi river (Mississippi Delta hex) or the James River (Ft. Monroe hex), what have I successfully blockaded? I think that I read somewhere that I have only blockaded that space/hex and not what is "upstream". Is that correct? Wil...
