Frontage rules is the limit. These are dependant on terrain and structures (towns and forts). Runyan stated no more than 4 arty pieces are useful in a DIV but the essence of frontage rules is still a mystery. Considering not all troops fight simultaneously and not all corps and armies arrive at the ...

The war is long...promote the guys you need and don't promote the guys you don't need...regardless of consequences the NM hit can be recovered with consistent victory on the battlefield...which, leads to others' promotions.

That depends on the situation. Armies can't start a fight but will fight of course if attacked, so the power of DIVs can be used both in corps (supporting their army or not) or in the Army (as extra punch when the army intervenes in support of its corps). The situation also depends on the corps-army...

AI logic pursues retreats quite effectively. The best way you have to destroy or capture enemy forces is by: Inflicting heavy casualties in decisive battles (capture prisoners in mass rout). Control territory so that a retreat is impossible (manouver for Military control). Defeat, pursue and lock un...

Does the engine make allowances for concentrated attacks on heavy fortifications - ie. in the case here massing batteries to try to punch through fortifications, concentrating on small areas - or does it simply 'line up' units against each other and fight them as it would an open field battle, simp...

Ehm...it was just out of altruism, SVF is my AACW. :) As of the loss in NM implied, i agree the two sides had different views on different generals. Best option to have the 1.0 installed in AACW2 folder and the current release in AACW. When a patch is released, uninstall AACW then delete the contents of its folder. Copy content of AACW2 into AACW, apply the current patch. Of course, make sure to keep the saved games and put them back in the AACW...
