However, if playing as the CSA, if you capture Cincinati Ohio ( large city) and place a general with "Recruiting" trait, does that increase your monthy manpower? I understand that we can not buy Ohio units, but doesn't this appear reasonable that it would improve the number of manpower raised each m...

I have the same thing happen to me. How long does the US force stay at Ft. Sumtner? Seems like they just sit there and besiege the fort, but never attack. Seems very strange.

Location and Building Units

I was curious as to whether anyone has a strong preference as to which state to build units. Playing as the CSA, I have tended to buy units in the states in which the action is occurring, like MO, VA and Tenn. However, I soon run out of units in those locations and have to build elsewhere. My questi...

Technological Advances

How are technological advances modeled in AACW? Do existing units received upgraded firepower, etc. or is it relegated to purchasing new units?

How many naval units are necessary to stop the enemy from crossing rivers. I know the tooltip will tell how many needed to blockade that river spot, but is that also the number needed to keep enemy units from crossing rivers?

Loyalty and diplomatic changes

I am getting comfortable with most of the aspects of this game. However, one aspect that escapes me is as follows: Does it make sense to change the loyalty of controlled enemy territory ( for instance WV if you are the CSA) by executing some of the available diplomatic options ( like matrial law, et...

Seems like the 24 division limit is a game type requirement, rather than replicating any sort of historical limitation. Off the top of my head, I can not think of a reason why any country would be limited to a certain number of divisions, other than manpower, which is already simulated in the game. ...

On a related item, what is the historical context for limiting the number of divisions that either side can have at one time? I am not disputing it, just curious as to the historical context. Thanks.

For a captured supply unit, that is say 50% healthy, are they just as efficient in supplying troops as a fully healthy, "own" supply unit would be? For instance, if as the CSA, I hav captured two US supply units that are 50% healthy, would it make sense to use them in tandem to supply units?

Beseiging a City

I have read the manual, the wiki, and many threads on this issue. But I am still not 100% sure how to attack and capture a city or fort. An example is that I have been beseiging Bowling Green as the gray for over two months. I have included in my stack artillery, engineers, infantry and have set the...

Railroads

I understand that railroads not utilized for army transport are then used for supply transportation. My question relates to how much is enough related to excess train capacity. In my current games, I rarely get over 2/3 of train capacity. I never get 100% of the optimal train capacity. Is that okay?...

Two quick questions

I have two quick questions that I have not been able to find the answer to on this forum. 1. I am playing as CSA and I wanted to exchange prisoners again. In 1862 when I did the exchange I recieved positive NM and victory points. But when I want to do it again in 1863, I get negative 1 NM points and...

Here is a question that is a variant on this theme. Currently, I have approximately 10% of my field units sitting in the replacement pool. Question regarding seige of Washington DC

As the CSA, I have surrounded Washington DC, having captured all of the provinces in Maryland and Virginia that abut the city. Also, I have blocked the Potomac River with four iron clads. My blockade has been on going since the fall of 1862 and it is now spring of 1863. I anticipate attacking the ci...

Does there exist any discussion either in the Manual, the Wiki or this forum that discusses the attributes of combined arms to give an indication of optimum force organization. While it is intuitive to group cavalery, artillery and infantry, it would be helpful to understand the game dynamics on this.

I am playing as the CSA in the April 61 Campaign game. Over the past several tries, I have attempted to assault St. Louis and capture that city. However, by the time I get sufficient resources to St. Louis, the Union has already established a large garrison there. Has anyone successfully captured St...

Command tool tip question

I think this is a quick question. On the command tool tip, the envelop that says if the command is activated or not, on a couple of instances there is a flashing lock on top of the envelope. Also, my commander can not move. What is this, and how to get the commander to take commands.

I am not sure why the April start would be more of a disadvantage for the CSA as opposed to the July start. Any thoughts on why that would be the case.
