somewhat detailed military structure - corps level is just to bland for me, I can't get emotionally attached to the IV Corps, but give me the 4th Royal Irish Gragoon Guards and I'm in heaven. Seriously, you need some flavor for the military - generic units dont cut it. I think corps level is also t...

Lost serial key

Hi bought the game in early July and due to it constantly crashing after the opening titles gave up but now after reading that the game should work correctly if I don't write a name in the "customer name" section I was wondering where I can find my serial key?

Thanks in advance

And the best thing is.... the game will only get better as it continues to evolve and incorporate some of the many suggestions that you are putting forward. It's not called the Adaptive Game Engine (AGE) for nothing!

The Pacific Coast and Far West are not forgotten Whilst historically the majority of the ACW was fought on the battlefields of the East in Virginia, and in the West throughout the Mississippi region, Tennessee and Kentucky, Ageod's ACW does not ignore the Far West and indeed, as can be seen from th...

National morale As a civil war between a people who valued their democratic rights above all else, the will of the people was an important component in the decision making process of the leaders of the Confederacy and Union. During the conflict there were a number of times when one more major defea...

Hi Denny. I see you're new to the forum. Welcome! Have you played Birth of America yet? It's an excellent example of Ageod's game design and a good way to pass the time prior to the launch of AACW. BoA provides a great entry point into how movement, combat and leadership are modelled under the Adapt...

Fighting the war over hundreds of regions For too long grand strategy games that have attempted to simulate the ACW have ignored the diverse range of regions over which the Union fought the Confederacy. Previous ACW games have divided the individual states in which the war was fought into five or s...

Prisoner exchanges From the manual : Starting in July 1862, prisoner exchanges become an option for both sides. In AACW Both sides can ask for a prisoner exchange each turn after July 1862. If both sides asked for such an exchange, then a number of prisoners of war (PoWs) held in camps are returned...

Units must be trained and equipped before being sent out to battle From the manual " Units appear the turn after you request them, but they start completely depleted (i.e. with 1 hit and 1 cohesion only), as they are gathering men and training them, collecting supplies, etc. Such units cannot be mo...

Home state bonus From the manual "Local units gain a small combat benefit when fighting in their State." AACW recongises that units will fight differently depending on their location. This is very intuitive, but I feel a lot of strategy simulations forget this important point. Men fought in the civ...

Turn 6 Late August 1861 McDowell’s force begins it’s slow move towards Richmond. (Game note: This glacial movement I believe highlights one of the intricacies of the game engine. Good commanders (ie high strategic rating) can get their force moving quickly (see Jackson) whilst General’s such as McD...

Turn 5 Early August 1861 The Washington defences are a considerable obstacle and intelligence reports of Jackson’s force suggest it to be insufficient for an attack on the capital. McDowell hopes it is no more than a raid by Jackson’s Corps, although it would appear that this particular rebel force...

Turn 4 Late July 1861 Around 22 July 1861, McDowell finds the Army marching into Manassas only to be surprised by a Rebel force under the command of Holmes. Once again the Army of NEV forces a withdrawal of the Rebel force although it is not decisive, yet it allows McDowell to occupy Manassas poten...

One further thing, in the first sceenshot you can see McDowell also has a number balloon detachment with him which gives a detection bonus. Other units detailed in AACW include Marines (as outlined in screen two), Medical Corps and Partisan troops.

Turn 3 Early July 1861 McDowell continues to feel the pressure for a quick victory (Four turns remaining) and so begins to plan a new attempt to open the road to Richmond by dislodging the rebels from around Manassas. Favourite game innovations and concepts

Most of you will no doubt agree that people who invest their leisure time in playing strategic simulations/ games are a demanding lot. They're often passionate about their favourite historical era, and after WWII and the Napoleonic Wars, the American Civil War is undoubtedly one of the most studied ...

Hi Marecone, A lot of work has already been done on the Regimental lists but I'm sure your input will be appreciated. One of the things I like most about Ageod's ACW is that you get regimental detail which has often been passed over in other strategic civil war games. Makes writing an AAR all the mo...
