Thanks for the response Black Cat. In the first sentence of my post I acknowledged this may be the wrong forum and explained my reason for posting it. With all do respect, it's not Bush vs Clinton, it's Lincoln vs Roosevelt. This particular forum is all about history. The little time I've been here ...
This may be the wrong forum but I really wanted to get a response from AACW players. The two best wartime American Presidents are probably Mr. Lincoln and Mr. Roosevelt. Both were faced with wars that not only impacted American history but world history. Who was the better wartime President? The iss...
Having only played the Demo, I can only speak with limited knowledge. But the thing that bugs me the most is the randomness of the whole industrialization process. Logicaly speaking. If I am the leader of a nation at war? I am going to have a good idea what I / my armies are most in need of. So, if...

Just when I think I'm done chasing girls I see a new one I want. Then my wife hits me in the side with her elbow.
I'm currently watching The Civil War by Ken Burns on DVD. I bought it recently on Amazon. This will be my third time seeing it, first time on DVD. I was looking around to see what Mr. Burns was up to and found that starting September 23, 2007 PBS will be airing The War by Ken Burns. It will tell the...
I'm not sure if this is an oddity or not. I'm still playing 1.06. I'm waiting for the problems to be worked out in the later patches. I'm only on my second June 61 campaign playing as the Union. In my first game (Pre 1.06) I fought General Lee several times in Northern Virginia. I never could take R...
encirclement, cut off supply, thats what I did at Richmond didn't cost many troops at at all. I did the same thing at Richmond. It went much better my second time using some strategy instead of just trying to muscle it. I used 1 Corps to the west to cut off any reinforcements for the CSA. I also ke...
The support units are no use in the army stack, they only help whichever one they're with so ideally you want one with each corps stack. How powerful you make the army stack really depends on your leaders and number of men available - for the CSA at the beginning I'll use Johnston and Jackson and B...
I typically use my army stack just like I would a corp attached to it. It has typically 3 divisions with it and other support elements. Also if you have few leaders available you may have no choice but to use your army stack as a combat element since you may not have the leaders to form corp. Besid...
"Should I have Siege artillery only if I am in a hurry to get breaches in a siege?" This raises a very good point. I can see no reason to buy siege artillery at the moment as it would be cheaper and more effective to buy more lighter artillery. I think siege artillery should get an extra bonus in s...
Check out this thread and it will explain how to build divisions. I have found the biggest thing to check if you have a problem; is the General Officer active.
Sometimes you need a printed manual and sometimes you don't. I had the entire manual for Falcon 4.0 Allied Force printed out, 716 pages. With a complicated game it just helps to be able to read while you do the task, or visit the toilet. Oh and the pretty pictures help too.
My first real attempt was July 1861 as the Union. I used it as a learning experience in both strategy and game mechanics. I found out the south will tear you apart with raiders pillaging and destroying tracks if you don't get a handle on it early. I learned taking Forts is very difficult. I learned ...

Going to battlefields is a rarity in my household - hopefully when my son is a little older he'll be into it. My wife would only do it if there was an outlet store nearby :p leure: I would like to have a set of maps handy when I'm reading on the subject. I finally got around to buying Shelby Foote'...
I'm also new so I can't really answer your questions. They are all good, especially number 9. I wonder if "Marching to the sound of guns," would apply? 5. I'm not sure what triggers Army HQ's to become available but eventually they do. I kept checking and finally under the support tab an Army HQ tab...
When I open up some of the later scenarios the game shows Corps stacks formed with the Corps General and individual Division Generals and a few other units. If you click on the Division leaders it shows their units as elements within that Division. It doesn't show all the Divisions elements inside t...
In that case you can either use them as stack commanders without assigning them as a divisional chief (they'll get a bit of a command penalty, but in many cases having them is better than nothing, and useful for garrisons or sittign in cities to use special abilities like recruiter). Also, some may...
Great questions Billy that I would love to see the answers also. I'll add a very beginner beginner question that may sound stupid. I'm playing one of the campaigns that starts in 1864 I believe, and I'm playing the Confederates. There are several 1 Star Generals in or around Richmond with no units a...
