Wikipedia has a decent political map (large and German!): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d3/Europe_1748-1766.png Here is a decent physical map that shows mountains and rivers at a quick glance: http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/historical/shepherd_1911/shepherd-c-002-003.jpg

Few are the developers which really care about making the best AI possible, whatever it means in time and money spent. Jean-Michel (Histwar) and Dave O'Connors (Panther Games) are among them. They are 'Defender of the Faith' for me :) You should probably count in Frogboy from Stardock, too (though ...

This means simply that teen-agers with money dominate the market being announced! Not in Argentina it wasn't. And neither was U.S. Fruit's dominion of Central America. ;)

I really hope that such economic quasi-colonial status will be modelled in the game. :)

Any news on that? After all it could be argued that those conflicts are at least as important, if not more so, for the Rise of Prussia(TM) as the Seven Years War. ;)

The Enemy at the Gate: Habsburgs, Ottomans and the Battle for Europe by Andrew Wheatcroft. In 1683, two empires - the Ottoman, based in Constantinople, and the Habsburg dynasty in Vienna - came face to face in the culmination of a 250-year power struggle: the Great Siege of Vienna. Within the city ...

Historical play: straightjacketed or free form?

One question that keeps running in my head is how straightjacketed the campaign will be. As I see it there's two extremes: One has fixed events firing at fixed dates. Prussia always declares war on Austrian in 1866. The American Civil War always starts in 1861. On the other side there's the freeform...

My new machine has Vista64 Ultimate, and I have to say the jump from XP wasn't as bad as I feared. I especially love the sidebar ... useful little toy, but it's nice.

I'm very doubtful of the "in place upgrade", though, that promises to keep everything intact from your old OS.

While not a movie I can wholeheartedly suggest The Pursuit of Glory: Europe 1648-1815 by Tim Blanning. It's a...

I would love a 30 Years War game, but ... I'm currently reading the new book "Europe's Tragedy - A New History of the Thirty Years War", giving a pretty deep overview of the conflict (850+ pages of pure text, plus nicely drawn battle maps), but reading through I have to say I have serious doubts if ...
