I have a hard time believing that rivers freeze south of the Potomac and swamps get snow in Georgia, at least in game terms [30 days of difficult weather!] I also don't believe that the 'Little Ice Age' prevalent in the mid-late 1700's was severe enough to freeze southern rivers and put snow in the...

Okay, you guys win... Maybe 6 is not so low after all. :niark: Well thats "just" history Grey. U know, i dont think i've had an army with 8 corps under it and since the corps tend to be bigger i wont say its a bad thing to think over. How big should armies become? If corps are bigger than in histor...

In the Gettysburgs campaign u have I,II,III,V,VI,XI,XII and the cav corps. Thats 8. Meade SR=5+6= 11. I mean thats not far above. U could even argue, whether in fact if not in name, some of the other detachment is divisional or corps sized give the average of those 8 corps isnt much more than 11-12k...

Actually, this is a good question as Strat rating +6 does seem a little high, doesn't it? In game terms i would say yes. I've never used more than 4-5 corps with an army and u can make REAL big armies with that. Usually i would only need 1 army in the east for either sides. Yes, this is a bit quest...

Very occult, interesting & important thing... How did you get to this? So a 5 active general has, next turn 5/6 chance to activate or (5,5) / 6 chances for instance? This seems reallistic to me. When Lakers (thanks to Gasol of course, he´s from home) are winning, they win every day... As im informe...

But not a malus if inactive for remaining inactive.
Ithink this is what the manual says, at last. :siffle:

A general who was inactive on the last turn also gets a slight malus on the initiative roll. A general who was active before gets a slight bonus. Just making a small clarification, as i became aware of this not to long ago. Its been widely regarded in the community that its the way it worked. So it...

Aren't you implying therefore that we can forget about emulating historical invasions like the Gettysburg Campaign, the 1862 Maryland Campaign, Bragg's 1862 Kentucky Campaign, etc., because any step along the way one or more of the subordinate commands might become inactive? Are we to suppose that ...

I have been running some in-game tests, attempting to achieve Lee's fast rates of march in the Gettysburg Campaign. In the Real Game, Lee's forces left the Culpeper, VA area in early June and fought the Battle Gettysburg in early July. It took Lee & co. about a month (in fair weather) to march to G...

Changing/making new unit types

Hi, Was trying to do a test modding of the 1813 scn, specificly changing all the prussian units first into big elements. So i could send it to Phil T seeing if that was in his line of thinking. Altering, aka the huge job, to get NCP elements streamlined. Looking in the scn file. For unit X i can gat...

But, Buell left Nashville September 7, raced northward to Louisville, then turned back south to engage Bragg at Perryville on October 8--that is, also nearly 200 miles in about a month's time. Buell hardly has the reputation of being a "fast mover", far from it. Agreed. I have a question here i sup...

Interesting results of ur tests Berto. As a having been part of designing rules before i would like make one observation. I usually call it the 90% vs 10% rule. Lets say some thing happens 10% of the time, but the other 90% it happens differently. If u base the design on what is possible and every o...

To be honest I think the problem here isn't the number of men lost but the Cohesion loss. When a fresh, rested division of 9000 starts campaigning, it doesn't strike me as abnormal that it should fairly quickly go down to 7500 men or so, but what I find and have always found excessive in this game ...

I have read that the marches in the Gettysburg campaign were around 20 miles per day, but I hesitate to take that figure as 'normal' for the entire war. I have also read that the army of the Potomac averaged only 6 miles a day in 1862. Anybody have a handy study on marching speeds, marching distanc...

I'm the one playing Jagger in the PBEM he mentions. I totally agree that you should be abused if you decide to campaign in adverse conditions. The problem I was seeing was that it was causing all of the Union conscripts to be used as replacements rather then new units and the CSA ends up outnumberi...

Frankly if i was playing CSA pbem and US player did that. I might let him through. Then cut of his supply line back to Washington, move capital from Richmond. Advice here ofc depence on what type attrition rules u use aka historic or normal. For a beginner i would advice normal so ill use that. First off u only lose cohesion when moving in/into a province u dont have military controll off. So the only thing that could then cause u attrition in own territo...

As far as im aware No. Unless some thing passed over my head too, historical attrition makes movement attrition much "worse"/realistic too. This is my experience and how i understod it to be in NCP and assuming since engine basicly the same that it so in AACW too.

The way I play i find my self closer to the 10% rule in general. As USA its normal for me to have 30 inf replacements, 15 Cav, 10-15 Elite in Vanila and around 3-5 of the rest. I rarely lose elements. Once after 2 big battle I saw 28 inf replacement be used up in 1 turn, which why i keep the numbers...

I find this whole thread pointless. In effect I see that some s want to rationalize the results of a battle, such that each battle's results roughly corresponds to their expectations. IMO ur missing the point. The game engine is operating at a high level and abstracts battle results through probabi...

Simply, in a napoleonic battle : - a side very weak in cavalry would be unable to pursue (eg Lutzen Bautzen: not a gun taken), would be unable to screen his retreat (turning defeats into routs), would be unable to attack enemy cavalry, would be quite blind and would have to move in squares (as at L...
