Hmm, the purchase page mentions an option to redownload for a year, but you have to pay an extra 7 or 8 Euros, and it only lasts a year.

Re-downloading?

I bought both BoA and AACW, and in at least one case I purchased the game via digital download from this site. In the other case I think I purchased the game through Matrix Games. Loved both, and I'm looking forward to buying NCP. Anyway, I'm wondering: if I purchase the digital download of NCP from...

I agree with everyone else: get this game. Battle results are usually plausible. The new command rules really do mitigate the concern about stacks. You need dispersion as well as concentration of force in this game, because you have to control supply lines, which are well-modeled. I do think it's po...

As for creating divisions, you can't create any in the first few weeks of the April 1861 scenario, and I'm not sure you can create any in the short scenarios either. Eventually the Union can create a total of 48 divisions and the CSA can create 24. Creating divisions, corps and armies are especially...

Welcome, Roger; you may recall that we were recently chatting over on the Matrix WITP board. Anyway, I agree with all that's been said here. I would just add that I didn't really understand this game until I played the full April 1861 scenario; the shorter scenarios are a good introduction, but the ...

I am genuinely uncertain whether it's gamey; that's why I posed my question. I don't feel strongly about it one way or another; I was just curious whether there's an emerging consensus about it. I see arguments both ways.

I've gotten used to the new system; it's quite simple once you do it a couple times. Like Pasternaski, I miss the division HQs. Putting them in the right place at the right time was an interesting logistical challenge. That said, I think Pocus said he removed them to help the AI. For me, that's a re...

Is it gamey to reshuffle commanders in a region on a given turn -- e.g, switching inactive generals with active ones -- in order to activate more units?

I did something similar, in the other direction, heading south from Memphis to Vicksburg. I owned nothing in between Memphis and Vicksburg, but once I built a depot in Vicksburg, it seemed to draw supply OK down the river from Memphis. But I'm not sure I understand jimwinsor's advice about using tra...

Wow, you got a draw against Fritz with its brainpower fully unleashed? I have no hope against it, but then I'm a mediocre chess player -- rating 1500 or so. Until Pocus optimizes the capitol-defense AI, in my next game (as the CSA), I'm going to impose a house rule on myself: no early capture of Was...

Hmm, I think it's safe to say I have no chance of ever defeating the AI in Fritz and Chessmaster 10. In fact, I'd wager none of us in this forum will ever do so. And it's only a matter of time before wargame AI becomes as unbeatable as the chess AIs. I think we've already seen some significant strid...

I can do most turns in 30 minutes, though sometimes I do spend an hour if I'm really fussing with things. My process varies. I always start by using the message filters, and I tend to look at the combat-result, "flag" and "special message" filters first, leaving movement for last. Sometimes I read t...

You sure are on a roll, because that's an excellent idea. It's easy to lose track of how many Corps you have in a large Army, for example. And no, I don't think it's in the game now. The roster does help, though.

This AAR has gone on way too long already, but a few closing thoughts. 1. What an awesome game! I just had a blast, start to finish. The April 1861 scenario is beautifully designed -- it gives you a few months to learn the interface while you build an army, time in which you can experiment without h...

I have to play one more turn before I get credit for the auto-victory, and so I plot some rather conservative moves. Sherman stops and rests short of Mobile; I take Chattanooga but leave Jackson alone; I retreat from my siege of Springfield of Missouri (where I was getting spanked anyway). (In fact,...

You're probably thinking: so what? Well, as a tooltip helpfully explains, the admission of Nevada reduces my auto-victory requirement from 225 to 200 National Morale. The rationale is: Nevada's admission makes Lincoln's re-election more likely. http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/3936/1864novvictscrn...

Through all this, in the back of my head I keep remembering: it's Election Day next month. And National Morale is still pretty high, hovering around 211, with 225 still the goa...

October 1864: The leaves are changing color in Virginia, but Meade decides he wants to take a shot at seeing North Carolina. He's quickly cut off from his supply sources. Time to retreat. (Or, as Mogami over at Matrix once put it, time to "attack in a different direction.") http://img177.imageshack....
